Khiara or Chiara?

My maternal grandparents are Italian immigrants and weren’t quite sure how the whole K thing worked in English (the “K” sound is spelled as “Ch” in Italian) so named my mom Khristine, thinking the K had to have an h behind it like Ch. I love this little bit of family trivia, and have wanted to name my daughter something with a Kh at the beginning to honor this. My husband and I love the name Chiara, but I’m playing around with spelling it Khiara instead (like Khristine). I’m just not sure if it would look too weird, and would love thoughts/reactions to seeing it spelled this way.

Our options are:
Khiara Jean (his mom’s name as middle name and honoring my mom’s funky spelling in first)
Or
Chiara Khristine (honoring my mom’s name as middle name and keeping traditional Italian spelling of Chiara)

Thanks so much for all thoughts!

Khiara just looka very Kardashiany to me, sorry. I much prefer [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] and most people are familiar with either that spelling or [name_f]Kiara[/name_f], so I’d stick to one or the other but not mesh them. I like [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] [name_f]Khristine[/name_f], it has a nice flow and I sort of like the repeating sounds.

Unfortunately, I agree that it does look like a Kardashian name spelled Khiara. While I think it’s a neat family connection, I much prefer how [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] looks.

Chiara Khristine is my favorite!
Khristine has many known spellings (Christine, Cristine, Kristine, Kristin,…). I believe most people will know how to spell it and will not find it strange. I adore that you are honoring your mother.
On the other hand, I’ve only seen Kiara and Chiara. I think both are beautiful and will be perfect for your baby as the first one is italian and the other one starts with K.

I much prefer [name_f]Chiara[/name_f]. It’s a lovely name.

It seems I’m the odd one out here but I like Khiara! I’ve honestly never seen [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] before and if I saw it I would assume it was chee-are-uh. With Khiara, even though the Kh- is a little out of the norm, my first instinct was still that it’s pronounced just like [name_f]Kiara[/name_f]. So honestly even though the Kh- is different I still think it would get mispronounced less than [name_f]Chiara[/name_f], at least in [name_u]America[/name_u].

[name_f]Chiara[/name_f] [name_f]Khristine[/name_f] looks best to me

I love this idea and would have suggested something similar had you not brought it up first. This allows you to include a special family name that even honours more than one person but your kids name won’t be confused as following the Kardashian trend.

Its a cool unique story! I say go for it! Who cares about the Kardashians???

[name_f]Chiara[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] would be my preference.

I think Khiara would be like spelling [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] as Caelah. I can see the family history for you but other people wouldn’t. [name_f]My[/name_f] vote goes to [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] [name_f]Khristine[/name_f] after your mum.

I love the family story, but would rather [name_f]Chiara[/name_f]. Both [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] [name_f]Khristine[/name_f] and [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] have great meaning and are great combos so I can see it would be hard to choose between them. [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_f]Khristine[/name_f]?

Haha! I did consider that, but was worried the rhyming [name_u]Jean[/name_u] and [name_f]Khristine[/name_f] would be too weird :stuck_out_tongue: still debating it!
