[name]Kieran[/name] would be my choice, with [name]Ciaran[/name] second. I like the idea of keeping the spelling [name]Ciaran[/name], but there would be tremendous (insurmountable, even) pronunciation difficulties- there’s a reason most Kevins spell their name like this rather than Caoimhin. I know a [name]Ciara[/name] ([name]KEER[/name]-a) who absolutely hates her spelling. I’ve never seen the [name]Kieren[/name] spelling, but every [name]Kieran[/name] I’ve met or heard of has spelt it that way. To me, it’s the most logical and easiest spelling to live with.

Thanks for your input! It is much appreciated.

I usually go for the authentic or original spellings of names. Being of Irish origin, I voted for [name]Ciaran[/name] (pronounced kee-ah-rawn). I’m not a great fan of Anglicized versions like [name]Kieran[/name] or “K” names in general. I don’t worry about pronunciation issues. Once you correct someone once, they usually get it right the next time!

[name]Kieran[/name] looks trendy, and [name]Kieren[/name] looks downright misspelled. I voted for [name]Ciaran[/name], because it looks nicer to me (Ks always look trendy) and because I almost always prefer the original spellings. I don’t think [name]Ciaran[/name] is as outrageously unintuitive as [name]Caoimhe[/name] or something; all you have to say is “It’s the Irish spelling-- the C is like a K”. I also know a [name]Ciara[/name] pronounced ‘keer-a’ and it’s not a huge amount of trouble for her, as far as I know. Another option would be the Sanskrit [name]Kiran[/name]-- it’s not related to [name]Ciaran[/name]/[name]Kieran[/name] but pronounced the same.
