Hey all,
I have loved the name [name_m]Killian[/name_m] ever since I came across it in a book. I love the sound of it, the uniqueness of it, and it helped that the character was a strong, good guy.
Is this a good name and one that could be used or is it one that shouldn’t be used because it starts with ‘kill’ and the inevitable nickname would be [name_m]Killy[/name_m]?
What are your thoughts?

I really like [name_m]Killian[/name_m] -its strong and interesting. I don’t think [name_m]Killy[/name_m] is inevitable as it’s not so familiar - [name_m]Kian[/name_m], [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m] could be alternatives if you wanted nicknames.
I don’t think about the ‘kill’ part but I know some people are bothered by it. You could go with the alternative/original spelling [name_m]Cillian[/name_m]?
A favorite of mine, although when I brought it up to my sister she said the Kill part of the name was off putting. I agree with @greyblue though, I don’t think “[name_m]Killy[/name_m]” is inevitable, and I quite like nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u] for [name_m]Killian[/name_m].
I don’t think people would call him [name_m]Killy[/name_m], however as it starts with Kill some people may not like it. An alternative spelling to [name_m]Killian[/name_m] would be as @greyblue said, [name_m]Cillian[/name_m], but I read [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] as [name_m]Sill[/name_m]-i-an with a soft c so I’m not a huge fan of the spelling of that one. However, I think the name is cute. Good luck!

I love [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] with this spelling. It’s my five year old nephew’s name. I think that gets rid of the ‘kill’ thing well enough. People do pronounce it as ‘sill-ee-in’ a lot, but it just takes a one time correction. Shouldn’t be a deal breaker. His parents actually do call him ‘[name_f]Cilly[/name_f]’ often. I guess that I’m used to it, & see it as the ‘C’ spelling it my head so it doesn’t bother me. You could always do [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] with the nn of [name_u]Cal[/name_u]?
