Kingston - How do you feel about the name?

I have for YEARS loved the name [name]Kingston[/name] for a little boy…and then [name]Gwen[/name] [name]Stefani[/name] used it. Kudos for her because I think it’s a great name, but sucks for me because she automatically made it ultra popular. Granted, I won’t have kids for another couples of years so the name does have the possibility of becoming less trendy (highly doubtful) but I just want to know…

[name]HOW[/name] [name]DO[/name] YOU [name]FEEL[/name] ABOUT THE NAME?

Too trendy?
Not suitable for an adult?
Not classic enough?
Too celebrity influenced?

Personally, I don’t like any name that has [name]King[/name], [name]Prince[/name], etc in it and [name]Kingston[/name] falls into that category. I think maybe it’s fine for other people but it’s not my favorite surname. I can’t picture it on a grown man to be honest.

I don’t object to it. Not my favorite name but it does have a certain charm about it. I suppose the bearer would completely influence whether this was a good name on an adult or not. A really put-together [name]Harvard[/name] graduate kind of guy could pull it off…the guy working at Target, not so much. I wasn’t aware of it having become trendy and could care less about [name]Gwen[/name] [name]Stefani[/name] so I’m really no help on that point!

This name is everything I don’t like in a name. It’s trendy, a celebrity baby, a place name, only recently used as a given name, and a title name. Yet against my better judgement, I still find myself liking it. Go figure.

I’d never use it on my own kid, but I don’t mind seeing it on other people’s children at all.

I am personally not a fan of it. It is very celebrity-influenced to me. Like, I think [name]Apple[/name] is really cool for [name]Gwyn[/name]'s daughter, but I couldn’t see a little girl outside of the celebrity world wearing that name. I’m sorry if that sounds awful. However, since it is a trendy name now, my view on [name]Kingston[/name] being celebrity-influenced will be completely negated a few years from now when you would be naming a child. So I would say go for it, if you’ve loved it for so long!

A friend of mine named her son that a year or two before [name]Gwen[/name] used it, so it wasn’t my first time hearing it when she brought it out to everyone’s attention. As soon as my friend announced it for her son, I thought it was a pretty cool name. I couldn’t use it myself as my last name is [name]King[/name] and that would just be cruel. but I think it’s a nice name and I don’t see anything wrong with it for an adult. makes me think he’d have a job as an attorney or judge or something like that where his name is on a lot of documents, haha. I say if you love it, use it!

Too trendy? - Yes I doubt people will even consider this name in 10 years

Not suitable for an adult? - I cannot really picture this on an adult, and the NN [name]King[/name] only seems to make that worse

Not classic enough? - I don’t think names have to be classic but you risk everyone hearing his name and knowing exactly what time frame he was born in. I love the name [name]Philippa[/name] but I let it go because of this as well

Too celebrity influenced? - Some celebrity names work better than others, if the celebrity factor is the only reason you are not using it then I would not let that stop you

Sorry, I’m not a fan of [name]Kingston[/name] at all. I read somewhere that [name]Gwen[/name] [name]Stefani[/name] named both her boys after where they were conceived, and I just can’t get that out of my head. It’s way too celebrity influenced for me, and it feels incredibly trendy. I agree with @dillonsfan01 that names don’t have to be classic enough (I would use [name]Grayson[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] in a heartbeat, and those aren’t classics, imo), but I wouldn’t want my children’s names to be too trendy, either. I can’t see [name]Kingston[/name] on an adult, either, sorry.

I dont like it at all. Yes, its too trendy… Yes, its too celebrity influenced… No, I dont consider this a classic name but, thats ok because not all names need to be classic to be nice [name]IMO[/name]. I do however think it works well on adult, maybe even better on an adult then on a little boy in fact. That being said its just not my style but, if you love it then thats all that matters

Thanks for everyone’s honest opinions. I think sometimes you get stuck in a rut of loving a name and thinking how awesome it would be to have a child that way and it’s always good to come back to reality and get other’s opinions on it.
