Kira?

I am 33w4d with baby #3, girl #2. I really like simple, feminine, and fresh names that have a bit of character. My husband really prefers a more modern twist on names so we’ve been working on a compromise that we both love, and I think we’ve found it.

WDYT of the name [name_f]Kira[/name_f] (pronounced keer-ah)?
What would you pair it with?
Does it work with big brother [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and big sister [name_f]Maia[/name_f]?

Thanks!

I think [name_f]Kira[/name_f] would go very nicely with [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_f]Maia[/name_f]. I do like the [name_f]Keira[/name_f] spelling better for you though.

It’s perfect

[name_f]Kira[/name_f] is lovely! It fits with both your criteria and her siblings’ names really nicely

I love this name pronounced as you prefer and I think it’s great with the sibling names. My first instinct would be to pronounce [name_f]Kira[/name_f] with a long i: [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-rah. I think [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] or [name_f]Keira[/name_f] might require fewer corrections, but this does not seem like it would be a difficult correction to make if you like the [name_f]Kira[/name_f] spelling better.

I think it’s a wonderful name and fits perfectly. Although I agree with others I instantly pronounced it wrong and prefer the spelling [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] Coming from someone with a simple name that people pronounce wrong all the time it’s very frustrating and upsetting so I would use the spelling [name_f]Kiera[/name_f].

I love the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek connection haha! I really like [name_f]Kira[/name_f], and I think she fits well with your other children’s names. For combos I’ve been thinking about [name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f], [name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Kira[/name_f]! I think keer-uh is the most intuitive way to pronounce this spelling. ([name_u]KYE[/name_u]-ruh would be [name_f]Kyra[/name_f] for me, but people are different I guess.) [name_f]Kira[/name_f] is a great choice! Also, most people of European origin will pronounce it correctly I think.

[name_f]Kira[/name_f] is lovely! I’ve known two - one whose name was spelled [name_f]Kyra[/name_f], and the other [name_f]Kira[/name_f]. Both pronounced keer-uh.

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

My sister’s called [name_f]Kyrah[/name_f], pronounced the same. I would use this name in a heartbeat if it wasn’t hers, lol, love it! [name_f]Keira[/name_f]'s my favourite spelling but [name_f]Kira[/name_f] is lovely too.

I think it’s great, and also a great match with [name_f]Maia[/name_f] and [name_m]Issac[/name_m]!

I knew a [name_f]Kira[/name_f] growing up (pronounced Kee-ruh) and always admired her name. I do like the trafitional [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] spelling, but I think [name_f]Kira[/name_f] is a better match with your other kids’, and much easier for non-Irish-speakers to pronounce! I prefer [name_f]Kira[/name_f] to [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] or [name_f]Keira[/name_f].

Sounds like a winner to me!

I love the name [name_f]Kira[/name_f].

I agree with a PP that the [name_f]Keira[/name_f] spelling might be better with [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_f]Maia[/name_f]… to me, [name_f]Kira[/name_f] is very close in spelling to [name_f]Maia[/name_f] (4 letters with an -a ending), whereas [name_f]Keira[/name_f] is not.

Either way, it’s a great choice. Good luck!

Why name her [name_f]Kira[/name_f] ([name_u]KYE[/name_u]-rah) if you want to call her [name_f]Keira[/name_f]?

[name_f]Kira[/name_f] is perfect with your older kids! I would pronounce [name_f]Kira[/name_f] and [name_f]Keira[/name_f] [name_m]KEER[/name_m]-uh, while [name_f]Kyra[/name_f] would be [name_u]KAI[/name_u]-ruh and [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] would be kee-yair-uh, with only a slight pronunciation on the second syllable (not completely like [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] with a K but close).

I like it! It fits very well with [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_f]Maia[/name_f].

[name_f]Kira[/name_f] seems more like a boy or unisex name, but it’s still epically awesome.

If you like death note I would consider it even more.

Only spell it [name_f]Kira[/name_f], it looks weird the other ways. And it’ll be simpler for when she grows up.

For middle names I would suggest:

[name_f]Kira[/name_f] Lawliet
[name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Moon[/name_f]
[name_f]Kira[/name_f] Ryuk
[name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Bijou[/name_f]
[name_f]Kira[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]

I agree with all of this. (Nice to see that I’m not the only one who pronounces these spellings these ways!)

Sorry, that’s like asking someone, “why name her [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] when you want to her call her [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f]?” [name_f]Kira[/name_f] is not definitively pronounced as [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-rah and I don’t think saying [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-rah is most people’s natural inclination actually.

I appreciate all the replies! I do like the spelling of [name_f]Keira[/name_f] but I think it’s a bit confusing to a lot of people who assume it is “KEE-air-ah” or “KEE-are-ah.” I know it would be even more of an issue if we used [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] as she would end up being called [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] by most people. I think [name_f]Kira[/name_f] fixes most of these issues and as I said before, I don’t think the majority of people are inclined to say [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-rah, but of course time will tell.

Thanks again!

I agree that [name_f]Kira[/name_f] is not pronounced as [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-rah by everyone…I would instinctively pronounce [name_f]Kira[/name_f] as [name_m]KEER[/name_m]-ah. There’s an elegant drink called a kir, pronounced [name_m]KEER[/name_m], for one, & two, anyone I’ve known w/the name [name_f]Kira[/name_f] has pronounced it [name_m]KEER[/name_m]-ah, not [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-rah. (Not that it matters at all, but I’ve never known or heard of anyone w/the names [name_f]Kira[/name_f], [name_f]Kyra[/name_f], [name_f]Keira[/name_f], or [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] pronounce them as [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-rah.)

Wow!! So stunning. I love the spelling of [name_f]Kira[/name_f]! It works so well with siblings! I think you’ve found a winner of a name!
