Does it make sense to use the nickname Kit for Catherine or does it only make sense to spell it Katherine? Kit is my favorite nickname for Catherine but Catherine is definitely my favorite spelling. Not sure if it’s weird to spell it Catherine instead of Katherine if using the nickname Kit.
Thoughts?
i think it would make sense ! after all, plenty Catherines go by Kitty/Kate so why not [name_u]Kit[/name_u] !

This is my eternal dilemma. It’s definitely simpler as [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] → [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but I still think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] → [name_u]Kit[/name_u] works. That’s what I’ll use if I use it.

[name_f]My[/name_f] main reason for liking [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] over [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is that our surname starts with a K as well so it’s nice to have a variation in initials. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom’s name is [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] and I think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is a nice way to honor her while still giving baby her own name. We might just put [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] in the middle and then not even worry about the whole [name_u]Kit[/name_u] dilemma but ugh it’s such a great name!

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is my middle name, so I can vouch for it as a middle! [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] as an honor for [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], too.

Thank you for all the positive feedback! I’m glad to know [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] “Kit” works just as well as [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
I think it’s fine either way? I prefer [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] in general now, but I used to prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], and would’ve happily used [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]! If [name_f]Kate[/name_f] can be a nn for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] can work the same way…

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] “Kit” makes sense! [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is a traditional NN regardless of the spelling of the full name. [name_f]My[/name_f] understanding is that [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] was the more common spelling up until the 20th Century, and since [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is a vintage NN, [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] “Kit” might be more common than [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] “Kit” throughout history.
I know quite a few Catherines who go by [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and still spell their NNs with a K.

I think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] “Kit” would make perfect sense! It still makes the same sound at the beginning, so I don’t think it wavers in the usability just because of a letter change. If that’s your preferred spelling, I say go for it!

Kit/Kitty/Catherine: the best!
Either one would work nicely.
