I’ve gotten hooked on Russian names and nicknames lately, and I’d love to hear some more! These are the ones I know and like so far:
[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Tatiana[/name]
[name]Viktoria[/name]
[name]Roza[/name]
[name]Katya[/name] (on its own or as a nickname for [name]Ekaterina[/name])
[name]Galina[/name]
[name]Ksenia[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Aleksandra[/name]
[name]Irina[/name]
[name]Karolina[/name]
What else might I like? Including the pronunciation would be very helpful, if you can. Also, is there a Russian variation of the name [name]Christina[/name]? Thanks!
[name]Tatiana[/name]
[name]Katya[/name] - But I prefer the spelling [name]Katia[/name], said the same way as [name]Katya[/name]. I have a thing about y’s, I guess. And [name]Katia[/name] is a traditional spelling as well.
[name]Ekaterina[/name]
[name]Aleksandra[/name]
[name]Irina[/name]
[name]Karolina[/name]
Other ones I like:
[name]Raina[/name] - but this is more Slavic/Bulgarian.
[name]Khristina[/name], [name]Khristya[/name], [name]Khrysta[/name] are variations on [name]Kristina[/name].
[name]Katerina[/name]/[name]Karina[/name] - If [name]Ekaterina[/name] seems daunting.
Valeriya/[name]Valeria[/name] - I love this, nobody else does though.
[name]Yelena[/name] / [name]Jelena[/name]
[name]Inessa[/name] - eee-NEH-sa
[name]Liliya[/name] - [name]LEE[/name]-lee-ya
[name]Tamara[/name]
I know a few russians… [name]One[/name] is [name]Tatyana[/name] but she generally goes by [name]Tanya[/name]. Also know a [name]Galina[/name], a [name]Natalia[/name] and an [name]Anoushka[/name] which I love!
Oh and [name]Ksenia[/name] was a favourite for a while too. Also had a thing for [name]Katarzyna[/name]. It’s just so exotic sounding! But it’s Polish…
I love [name]Ekaterina[/name], [name]Ksenia[/name], [name]Irina[/name], and [name]Karolina[/name]. I like the suggestions of [name]Liliya[/name] (although I prefer the Polish spelling, Lilija, or the more English spelling, [name]Lilia[/name]), [name]Valeria[/name] (AHHHH! @stripedsocks, I thought I was the only one that loved this! It used to be on my short list but everyone told me it sounded too much like “malaria” and she’d be teased endlessly… :/), [name]Zoya[/name], and [name]Lidiya[/name], as well.
My favorites:
[name]Valentina[/name]
[name]Olga[/name] (oh, I know… I feel like I should hate it but I met a sweet Russian lady named [name]Olga[/name] a while ago and I thought it was just so cool! It sort of reminds me of other short-and-sweet “O” names, like [name]Opal[/name], [name]Odette[/name], and [name]Olive[/name])
[name]Nadia[/name] (or the original Russian form, [name]Nadezhda[/name], which I really love! I always thought if I adopted a little girl from [name]Russia[/name], I would give her the mn [name]Nadezhda[/name], or possibly [name]Nadia[/name])
[name]Oksana[/name]
[name]Maya[/name] (I’m not sure if this is legitimately Russian or not, but there’s this phrase in Russian, “maya dorogaya”, and it basically means “my sweet one” or “my beloved”. For the longest time I wanted to use [name]Maya[/name] as a MN for [name]Isabelle[/name] because of that! I think it’s such a sweet sentiment)
[name]Olesya[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name]! Russian form of [name]Alexia[/name]/[name]Alessia[/name])
[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Olesya[/name], [name]Liliya[/name], and [name]Nadia[/name] are probably my favorites, though.
These are great! I agree that [name]Valeria[/name] is pretty. There are several names on here that I already liked and didn’t know they were Russian. And [name]Olesya[/name] is such a great alternative to [name]Alexa[/name] and its variations.
I was going to say your all forgetting [name]Natasha[/name] (but then it was posted) I’m biased though. I think in [name]Russia[/name] [name]Natascha[/name] is more common? not quite sure.
[name]Agnessa[/name]
[name]Aleksandrina[/name] (long but beautiful)
[name]Eva[/name] (though not overtly Russian)
[name]Filippa[/name]
[name]Faina[/name]
Gavriila
[name]Lana[/name]
[name]Lara[/name]
[name]Larisa[/name]
[name]Polina[/name]
[name]Roksana[/name]
[name]Svetlana[/name]
Uliana
[name]Yulia[/name]
[name]Yuliana[/name]
[name]Zoya[/name]
[name]Varya[/name] is also a form [name]Varvara[/name]
I think [name]Katya[/name] is beautiful, its my daughters name She is [name]Yekaterina[/name]. My husband is from [name]Russia[/name] and picked the spelling. Either (E or Y) is correct. Our alternative was [name]Valentina[/name].
