Kova?

While obsessively collecting names for future babies, I stumbled across the name Kova. By stumbled across, I of course mean made up in my own head. It turned out to be an actual name - rather rare, but real nonetheless. I love the name, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts to share.

Also, it could possibly be a nickname for something, but I don’t know what and it probably would be weird. Who knows, maybe you have ideas?

All feedback is appreciated, just was wondering what everyone thought of this name. Thanks

Kova to me sounds like a feminization of the word (and name) [name_m]Cove[/name_m]. It also reminds me of the Hawaiian name Kona. I like it- it reminds me of the ocean, from both the cove and Hawaiian connection.

I’m not sure I have any full name ideas, except maybe a first and middle name beginning with “Ko” and “Va”-
For example, [name_u]Kolby[/name_u] [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] could be Kova.

With Kova as the full name, she could go by [name_f]Koko[/name_f] for short.

I agree that it sounds vaguely tropical.

Could potentially be a pet name for [name_f]Calvina[/name_f], [name_f]Chava[/name_f], [name_f]Clover[/name_f], Kavya, or [name_f]Kevia[/name_f], and who knows what else.

To me, it sounds African. Reminds me of Kovu from the [name_m]Lion[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m] II. haha It seems like it was one of those names that got created out of a random word that sounded nice. Or a name that was created and turned out to be a word in another language. Either way, it doesn’t seem to mean anything bad, thankfully, and has a soft, pretty sound to it. =]

On the topic of names it could be short for, I like @eagleeyes suggestion of a using it as a nn for something like [name_u]Kolby[/name_u] [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]. I think that is going to be your best bet. I don’t know that you’ll find a ton of names that Kova is truly an intuitive nickname for.

I like it. It fits well in that group of names that are feminine but not frilly. It has a modern edge.

I love it!! Like a lot, wow-!
It reminds me of the male [name_m]Koda[/name_m] or Kovu from the lion king 2 but I like this much more
I think it could stand on its own
If you like it you should also consider [name_m]Cove[/name_m] if you hadnt already

I like it! Gives me [name_m]Koda[/name_m], Kava, [name_f]Nova[/name_f] vibes.

To me it sounds Russian - like the feminine versions of surnames that end in ‘kov’ (Volkov/Volkova, Belikov/Belikova).
I really like it! It’s got a nice sound and it’s short to spell & easy to remember for when people hear it for the first time.

I came across a Youtuber once who’s daughter was called Nakova nn Kova. It doesn’t appear to be on nameberry but comes up as a surname from Bulgaria on Google. [name_m]Just[/name_m] popped into my mind when I saw your post as it’s a really unusual name!

I thought this too - like Markova. I like it!

Also, the Spanish name “Cova” is a nickname for Covadonga, taken from a place name meaning “Cavern of the Lady” (from Latin Cova [name_f]Dominica[/name_f]). It’s given to girls in honor of Nuestra Señora de Covadonga, or Our Lady of Covadonga. The full Covadonga isn’t really usable in English, but the place itself is gorgeous: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Cueva_de_Covadonga

There’s also Coventina, the name of a Celtic goddess, and the English surname/place name Coventry. I’d probably pronounce them differently though, like coven.

I didn’t respond to this thread when I first saw it because I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but the more I see it, the more I like it. It’s simple but unusual, and I think any kind of person could wear this name.
