Kylie?

I love the name [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] especially now that I have a middle name that flows with it… But can you imagine it on a grown woman? I feel like it might be a cutesy name that DD may grow out of someday.
Also, do you immediately associate this name with the Kardashians? I am not naming my daughter after [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Jenner.
Thoughts?

[name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Minogue had it way before the Kardashians and she wears it beautifully.

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Kylie[/name_f], I prefer [name_u]Riley[/name_u], but I don’t think it would be a hard name to grow into. It’s not so new a name that there aren’t adults with it so while I find it a bit juvenile, I’m sure it would age fine.

You could also use [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Kyla[/name_f] or even [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] or maybe spell it [name_u]Kiley[/name_u] if [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] reads young to you.

Yes! This! If you need a positive association, Minogue is an actual grown goddess.

I second the above ideas.

(And yes, my immediate thought is [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Jenner and that is enough to put me off personally, but if that doesn’t bother you then go for it.)

I know grown women named [name_f]Kylie[/name_f]. It wears just fine on an adult.

All I can think about is [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Jenner. I live in southern Ca, so maybe the association is much stronger here than in other areas, but keep in mind I try my hardest not to “keep up” with them.

I like the suggestion of [name_f]Kyla[/name_f] though. Other ideas…
[name_f]Kyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]/[name_f]Caia[/name_f]
[name_f]Callie[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Karla[/name_f]
[name_f]Celie[/name_f]

I do associate it with [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Jenner and don’t even follow the show or any celebrity for that matter. Then again, I wouldn’t let one public figure who will eventually fade from the limelight completely tarnish a name I loved. Personally I prefer [name_f]Kyla[/name_f] anyway and think that it would make a lovely alternative option.

I personally can only think of [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Jenner, and she’s definitely ruined the name for me. However, if that association doesn’t bother you, I’d say go for it. I think it’ll be fine in 20-30 years for an adult since lots of kids are being given “cutesy” names nowadays and they will all age together.

I like the suggestions of [name_f]Kyla[/name_f] and [name_f]Callie[/name_f] from above (I’ve liked [name_f]Callie[/name_f] ever since [name_f]Callie[/name_f] [[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]] Torres came to [name_u]Grey[/name_u]'s Anatomy) as an alternative to [name_f]Kylie[/name_f].

Best of luck!

I am your most out-of-it pop culture person you could meet as I haven’t watch TV since ER went off the air. You had to throw that out to make me realize there was a [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] that was well-known. I do like the name [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] personally, but I guess what I can’t get over is the meaning…boomerang. I personally place great credence on the meaning of names…not just their sound, so for me, it is out. I do come back to it over and over again as I just think it has a great sound. It may be one that ends up being trendy for awhile and then fades as I don’t find it a classic name. That is my opinion of it.

Unfortunately, yes, I immediately think of [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Jenner.
Ugh.

Oh, and I’ve always thought the name [name_u]Keely[/name_u] was cute (if that’s how it’s spelled)…not sure how it would suit a grown woman, though.

There are many Australians named after [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Minougue but she isn’t cool at all here so the name isn’t cool either in Australia! I think it will make a comeback so you could choose it and be ahead of the trend! [name_u]Riley[/name_u] is a much trendier name at the moment.

[name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Jenner ruined the name for me too—when I hear it, even on another person, it’s all I can think of when I hear it. And I have a feeling the Kardashians aren’t going away any time soon, and neither is the association. :frowning:

I’m with the person who said they prefer [name_u]Riley[/name_u]. I associate [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] with the Kardashians immediately, sorry!

I grew up with several girls named [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] and definitely think of them miles before Jenner. It’s ranked in the US Top 100 since the early 2000s, so I easily see it on a variety of ages.

I did think about Jenner, but I also think of [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] Minogue. [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] isn’t even usually my style, but I really like it! I think it’s a sweet and cute name.

[name_f]Kylie[/name_f] is the opposite of cutesy to me, it’s a mum name in Australia…

[name_u]Keely[/name_u] is a great suggestion! There’s a British tv actress called [name_u]Keely[/name_u] [name_m]Hawes[/name_m] in her 30s/40s and I’ve always thought it was such a lovely name. I can see it being cute on a little girl too.
