I don’t really like it as a first name just because most lakes are called [name_u]Lake[/name_u] Such-and-such so [name_u]Lake[/name_u] Surname would sound too much like a landmark in my opinion. That being said, non flowery nature names are generally pretty evenly unisex to me.
Ditto. I live in a state with a lot of lakes so that’s all I think of.
I would say girl only because I know a girl named [name_u]Laken[/name_u] and that was the first thing that came to mind. Then there’s [name_m]Tom[/name_m] [name_u]Brady[/name_u]'s daughter [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_u]Lake[/name_u].
I love [name_u]Lake[/name_u]. It definitely feels girl to me.
I think it’s unisex, although I don’t recommend it. As others have said, [name_u]Lake[/name_u] “[name_m]Smith[/name_m]” sounds more like a place than a name.
If [name_u]River[/name_u] is the rambunctious little brother, [name_u]Lake[/name_u] is his calm-and-cool big sister. Still waters run deep, right?
I don’t really like it as a name either, but the only [name_u]Lake[/name_u] I know if a boy. So I think of it as a boys name.
Really, it could work fine on either gender.

I’d say it’s pretty evenly both. I feel the same about most nature names.
I think [name_u]Lake[/name_u] is a word that is best kept for a middle name choice for either gender.
