Laken or Laker?

Interested in hearing thoughts on the names [name_u]Laken[/name_u] and Laker for a boy! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a preference of one over the other?

(Both pronounced with the word “lake” at the start of the name: lake-in, lake-er)

I think I prefer Laker for a boy. [name_u]Laken[/name_u] makes me think of that [name_f]Lakynn[/name_f] meme, whereas Laker makes me think of sports.

I don’t care for either one. I like [name_u]Lake[/name_u].

I prefer [name_u]Laken[/name_u] because it gives you the nicknames [name_m]Len[/name_m] and [name_u]Lenny[/name_u]. I’d pronounce it lake-en, not lake-in

I quite like names with [name_u]Lake[/name_u] in them and I’ve never seen Laker before! I like it but there’s something holding me back so I voted for [name_u]Laken[/name_u] although I prefer it pronounced lake-un rather than lake-in.

I hadn’t thought of the nicknames [name_u]Lenny[/name_u] and [name_m]Len[/name_m] for [name_u]Laken[/name_u], but that does make me like the name more! And in retrospect I pronounce it the same way you do. Thank you for your thoughts!

The sports association is a little too strong for me with Laker, but I’m trying to change my associations more toward the nature side of the name.

If you’re in the US, the association with the LA Lakers would be very difficult to overcome for a kid named Laker. I went with [name_u]Laken[/name_u].

In [name_f]Canada[/name_f], but I agree that the association would still be quite strong.

I agree with this! I also have a female friend named [name_u]Laken[/name_u] so it just personally sounds feminine to me.

While I prefer just Lake, of these options I would definitely say Laken if you are in the US.
The LA Lakers association I think may just be too strong.

I chose laken but I actually just like [name_u]Lake[/name_u] for a boy.

Laker reminds me too much of basketball, so I went with laken.

I prefer just [name_u]Lake[/name_u]. Laker just reminds me of the basketball team.

I chose [name_u]Laken[/name_u] because even though I am from [name_f]England[/name_f] I still associate Laker with sports (basketball) and that makes it unlikeable for me personally.
I prefer just [name_u]Lake[/name_u] or [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] more than both [name_u]Laken[/name_u] and Laker though.
