Which would you pick and why?
Lana lah-na
or
Lani lah-nee
Lani is a full Hawaiian name. Lana is a Slavic short form of Svetlana, Milana etc. but could also be short for Alana etc.
But I only like Lana and Lani

i prefer [name_f]Lani[/name_f]! i think my opinion is slightly based off of me being canadian though. i feel like [name_f]Lana[/name_f] sounds a lot better in a country accent for some reason haha
[name_f]Lana[/name_f] also reminds me of [name_f]Lana[/name_f] [name_u]Del[/name_u] [name_u]Rey[/name_u] (which idk if that’s a good or bad thing, so take it as you will! :))
oh also! i feel like [name_f]Lani[/name_f] could be mispronounced as lane-ee sometimes
[name_f]Lani[/name_f] just because of the backwards spelling thing.
I love [name_f]Lana[/name_f], it feels very sparky, chic and retro. The backwards spelling thing does put me off a little but I think it’s usable.
[name_f]Lani[/name_f] is bright and airy and very pretty too, just has a bit less presence than [name_f]Lana[/name_f] to me.
I really love Lani, I think it has a really sweet and cheerful sound!
Lana is also nice, but it feels a little 90’s to me (though that could just be a coincidence, it’s just that all the Lanas I know are in their 30s).
[name_f]My[/name_f] middle name can be shortened to both of these, and for a brief time, I used it as my regular name, and tried both out as a nickname
Personally, I preferred [name_f]Lana[/name_f] to [name_f]Lani[/name_f], and never had any issues with it being spelled backwards.
Also if I remember rightly, in Hawaiian, [name_f]Lani[/name_f] is type of a poisonous flower
(might be [name_u]Alani[/name_u] though?).
I like Lana - it’s always had a warm and sweet sound to me
[name_f]Lana[/name_f]: timeless, elegant, smooth and flowing pronunciation, sing songy as well. The image that comes to mind is of a young to middle aged lady attractive enough to be a quiet beauty queen. Also [name_f]Lana[/name_f] [name_u]Del[/name_u] [name_u]Rey[/name_u] who is a pretty awesome namesake to have. I can see [name_f]Lana[/name_f] fitting across all the age groups and stages of life and though it is sweet snd gentle I see it as being a name taken seriously in a place of work.
[name_f]Lani[/name_f] is also a nice, pleasant name with a hint of exoticism via the Hawaiian origins but I greatly prefer the “a” ending in [name_f]Lana[/name_f] to the more gender neutral “i” ending in [name_f]Lani[/name_f].
[name_f]Lana[/name_f] has more middle names I think would match too
I think I prefer [name_f]Lani[/name_f]! That -i on the end makes it brighter and spunkier, imo, and it feels very playful and summer-y. ![]()
I do really love [name_f]Lani[/name_f], but it feels weird to me to use a Hawaiian name if you don’t have any Hawaiian ancestry. I’m conflicted because there are some beautiful Hawaiian names that are shooting up the popularity charts and I’m kinda meh on that trend.
[name_f]Lana[/name_f] is recognizable, pretty, and timeless so it gets my vote.
[name_f]Lana[/name_f] is my favorite of the two
[name_f]Lana[/name_f]
I slightly prefer [name_f]Lana[/name_f] just because it makes me think of [name_f]Lana[/name_f] [name_m]Turner[/name_m] and old Hollywood glamor.
So I may be bias because I am an [name_f]Alana[/name_f]
[name_f]Lana[/name_f] feels more old Hollywood to me. I get called [name_f]Lani[/name_f] sometimes and it reminds me of [name_u]Lanny[/name_u] McDonald
