Landry? Honest opinion!

I’m a huge fan of boy names that end in “y” and I love the name [name_u]Landry[/name_u] but, my husband thinks it’s too close to the word “laundry”. What do you think?
Any other names similar to [name_u]Landry[/name_u] or boy names that end in “y”?

One of my favorite names. It sounds more like [name_m]Land[/name_m] than Lawn the sound you’d need for laundry. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of boy names ending y. [name_u]Bentley[/name_u]?

I totally agree with you on that!
I do like the name [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] but every time I hear it, it reminds me of Teen Mom OG. [name_f]Macy[/name_f] on the show named her son [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] so I’d probably never use it.

Always reminds me of laundry, too. More so the look than the sound but I view both as equally important, so I’m not a big fan of [name_u]Landry[/name_u].

Not a huge fan of [name_u]Landry[/name_u]. Maybe [name_m]Landon[/name_m]? Some “y” names that I like are:
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_m]Asheley[/name_m] (yes I prefer the name for a boy, but I would spell it [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f])
[name_u]Bentley[/name_u]
[name_m]Brody[/name_m]
[name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]/[name_u]Kassidy[/name_u] (yep another name I prefer for a boy)
[name_u]Danny[/name_u] (I prefer it to [name_m]Daniel[/name_m])
Demetry/[name_m]Dmitry[/name_m]
[name_u]Freddy[/name_u]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_m]Jaecy[/name_m]
[name_m]Johnny[/name_m] (preferred to [name_m]John[/name_m])
[name_m]Kearney[/name_m] (good strong Irish name)
[name_u]Kelsey[/name_u]
[name_f]Lacey[/name_f]
[name_m]Mackensy[/name_m] ([name_m]Mac[/name_m] NN?)
[name_u]Mckinley[/name_u]
[name_u]Nikky[/name_u] ([name_m]Nicolas[/name_m] NN?)
[name_u]Percy[/name_u]
[name_u]Presley[/name_u]/[name_m]Prestley[/name_m] (homage to [name_m]Elvis[/name_m] lol)
[name_m]Ramsay[/name_m]
[name_u]Teddy[/name_u] (cute NN for [name_u]Theo[/name_u] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_f]IMO[/name_f])
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] (my dad’s name :))
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] (NN for [name_m]Tobias[/name_m])
[name_m]Trey[/name_m]
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m]/[name_m]Westley[/name_m] (I think of the [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Bride[/name_f] lol)

Some other names that are similar to [name_u]Landry[/name_u]/[name_m]Landon[/name_m]:
[name_m]Layton[/name_m]
[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]
[name_m]Larson[/name_m]
[name_u]Loren[/name_u]
[name_m]Lawson[/name_m]
[name_u]Layne[/name_u]
[name_m]Lazarus[/name_m]/[name_m]Lazarius[/name_m]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped!

I like it! It’s an old [name_m]French[/name_m] name.

I think so many names sound almost like something else.

[name_m]Luke[/name_m] - puke
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] - mucas

I could go on…

[name_u]Landry[/name_u] does not sound like Laundry, although spelling is close. No one will confuse your baby with Laundry. There is something ‘wrong’ with literally every name if you look hard enough.

[name_u]Landry[/name_u] was one of my favorite names as a teen. I still like it! I do think of laundry but tbh, most names have an association of some sort, and considering some of the doozies out there, “laundry” isn’t so bad

I’ll admit, I did think it was “laundry” until I gave it a second glance. I do like the name though! You don’t hear it much…at least I don’t. If I met a boy or man with this name, I’d probably think that it was a surname that the parents wanted to honor, so used for their son.

I can’t really think of any other suggestions, especially after seeing that rather nice list that another user already provided  [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], [name_u]Presley[/name_u], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_m]Coby[/name_m], [name_u]Roy[/name_u], [name_m]Leroy[/name_m], [name_u]Percy[/name_u], [name_u]Perry[/name_u], [name_u]Stanley[/name_u], [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], [name_u]Bradley[/name_u], [name_m]Troy[/name_m], [name_u]Cory[/name_u], [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], [name_u]Percy[/name_u], [name_u]Gary[/name_u], [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_m]Diggory[/name_m], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_f]Chesney[/name_f], [name_u]Danny[/name_u], [name_m]Davey[/name_m], Dmitriy, [name_u]Ellery[/name_u], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], [name_m]Harry[/name_m], Koy, [name_m]Trey[/name_m], and [name_m]Ty[/name_m] are some more suggestions. Sorry for repeats.

I love the sound of it. Out of context it could frequently be mistaken for laundry (on a sign on the nursery wall, “pick up landry” on a to-do list, on the back of a shirt, etc). I’d probably rule it out because of that. But it certainly doesn’t have to be a deal breaker if you love it. The people who know him will catch on pretty quickly.

It sounds/looks too much like laundry.

I’m just going to add a suggestion of Kendry which I think might suit your style and avoid the laundry issue. Tbh [name_u]Landry[/name_u] comes across as a portmanteau of ‘landed gentry’.

Wow I’ve never heard the name Kendry before. I really like that! Where did you get that from?

I’ve only known girls named [name_u]Landry[/name_u]

I know this is an old thread but what do you all think of spelling it Landrey? I’m usually very anti name spelling change, but my husband loves this name and I can’t get over the fact that it looks like laundry. But I think adding the E helps it a bit. What do you think?

I love [name_u]Landry[/name_u], but due to my frivolous ways…I often associate the name with laundry. Sorry!

Full honesty: I thought I read Laundry then did a double take. I think this could happen quite a bit.

That said, I do really like [name_m]Landon[/name_m], and to stretch it a little more, I love [name_u]Linden[/name_u].

[name_u]Landry[/name_u] is so so cute but laundry does honestly immediately come to mind. What about [name_m]Leander[/name_m]?
There’s also,
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_u]Destry[/name_u]
[name_u]Ripley[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Albany[/name_u]
[name_u]Perry[/name_u]
Motley or [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m] ([name_m]Monty[/name_m])
[name_u]Kirby[/name_u]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_u]Finlay[/name_u]
[name_u]Grey[/name_u]
[name_u]Embry[/name_u]
[name_u]Dustin[/name_u] ([name_u]Dusty[/name_u])
[name_u]Ellery[/name_u]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_m]Cleary[/name_m]
[name_u]Blakely[/name_u]
[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
or even [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] or [name_u]Hayden[/name_u]

These may be too feminine for you, but I tried to keep with the theme, hope to have helped!

I honestly thought it said laundry when I first saw it… not a fan. Sorry.

Landrey with the e really does help! It gets closer to names like [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. If your husband is on board with it with the E and you still love the name it says definitely worth considering!
There’s also Leandry/Leandrey. Adds an extra syllable, not sure if you’re into that but it was the only alternative suggestion I could come up with. Good luck!
