Lane or Elaine?

Do you prefer Elaine nn Lainie and Lane or just Lane?

Do you say eh-LAYN or ee-LAYN and where are you from?

Is Lane too bland or is it weird to just be named after a sort of street? Do you imagine a pretty little lane or a bigger street?

I prefer just Lane, since Elaine still feels a bit dated to me. I don’t think Lane feels “bland” because it means street - it’s established as a nickname name for Elaine and other similar names, so it’s not like anyone will think she’s named after the word “lane”.

I pronounce Elaine is ee-lain.

My actual favourite of the names you mentioned is Lainie on its own, though!

I actually favor [name_u]Lane[/name_u] due to the neutral gender it gives off, I like most names with that quality and I do like as well that it needs no nickname and doesn’t really have one either.

[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] I say like (eh-LAYN)

I like [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] better. A lovely name ready for a comeback imo. I pronounced ih-lane

I love just [name_u]Lane[/name_u]. I would pronounce [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] as eh-layn and I’m in the northeast US.

I prefer [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] (eh-LAYN, I’m from the southern US). I know [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] might be considered a little dated instead of classic but I just think it’s so pretty and I’m rooting for a come back. I think it adds a sparkle to [name_u]Lane[/name_u].

I prefer [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] (ah-LAYN) as it looks more complete, but I do love the sound of [name_u]Lane[/name_u]! I prefer the spelling of [name_u]Laine[/name_u] to lose street associations.

I’m in Australia. I’d say eh-layn.
I think all the choices are lovely. There’s a simplicity about [name_u]Lane[/name_u] and [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] is definitely ready for a comeback.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite version is [name_f]Elaina[/name_f].
And my favourite nickname for [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] is [name_f]Elle[/name_f].

I don’t think of a street first when I hear [name_u]Lane[/name_u], instead I associate it with the best friend from [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls.

I love [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]! (And pronounce eh-LAYNE) It’s worth the revival and [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] or [name_f]Laina[/name_f] are great!!

I prefer [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. It’s my middle name. Honestly, I would say ee-lane & uh-lane interchangeably.

[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] for me. So sweet and ready to return

I think the sweetest of those names is [name_f]Lainie[/name_f] with the nn [name_u]Lane[/name_u]

I prefer just [name_u]Lane[/name_u]

[name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_u]Lane[/name_u]!

Not really a fan of one syllable names, unless it’s pared with another name, I’ve always love names that have multiple nickname variants, [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] it’s a lovely name, very timeless and haves a vintage flair.
I’d normally pronounce it eh-layn and prefer it that way, but ee-layn also sounds nice.

One of my lifelong best friends is a [name_u]Lane[/name_u]! I call her [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] / [name_u]Laney[/name_u] often. I don’t think her name is plain, and I don’t really think about the street association with the word lane at all. I also imagine a [name_u]Lane[/name_u] wouldn’t be named after a synonym for street. [name_u]Lane[/name_u] is a lovely, established name and surname besides!

I don’t much care for [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. I do find that name a bit uncomfortable and dated. (I say eh-LAYN.)

[name_u]Lane[/name_u] nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] / [name_u]Laney[/name_u] is my vote! :sun_with_face:

[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] is my mother’s name and we say ee-laine. It’s also my middle name (spelled Elayne) and my niece’s middle name (Elaine). [name_f]My[/name_f] mom was nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f] because that’s what I called her as a baby.

I prefer Laney/Lainey. I’m a [name_u]New[/name_u] Yorker so even after all these years I still have Seinfeld associations with the name [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. And I’d pronounce it uh-lane.
