Larry

We recently found out we are expecting a boy and my husband is set on using his late father’s name, [name_m]Larry[/name_m], for the first or middle name. I don’t love the name, but understand the sentiment. Can anyone think of a first name to go with [name_m]Larry[/name_m] as the middle? Something that softens it up a bit? Thanks!

Are there any names you like?

I like [name_m]Larry[/name_m]! Could you use [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] nn [name_m]Larry[/name_m]? [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] goes well with contemporary boys’ names.

Otherwise:

[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Larry[/name_m]

I like [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]/[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] quite a bit, and [name_m]Larry[/name_m] is the traditional nickname for that.

There’s also [name_m]Larson[/name_m] or [name_m]Lars[/name_m], if you’re open to variations on [name_m]Larry[/name_m].

I think if you’re using [name_m]Larry[/name_m] as a middle name that doesn’t have to constrain your first name choices at all, really–in that case I’d go for something you really like to balance out your husband’s choice in the middle. It’s clearly a very meaningful name for him, and I’m sure your son will appreciate the connection to his father’s father through it, even if [name_m]Larry[/name_m] isn’t near the top of the name charts these days. [name_m]Harry[/name_m] seems like a pretty popular choice these days, so i think a little [name_m]Larry[/name_m] (if you use it as a first name) would fit in just fine, too.

[name_u]Laurence[/name_u]
[name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m]
[name_m]Laramie[/name_m]
[name_m]Lars[/name_m]

Was his legal name [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]? If so, you could consider [name_u]LawRENce[/name_u] and use [name_u]Ren[/name_u] as his nickname. Otherwise, I think [name_m]Larry[/name_m] in the middle spot will work with most first names that you may like and that go well with your last name.
