Hi, we are having a boy and hubby suggested Lars. Our surname is Matthews so super English sounding. Could Lars Matthews work or would it sound silly???
Hubby likes one syllable boys names but we are struggling to find one we like. We generally like very classic names so Lars is left field for both of us.
I think [name_m]Lars[/name_m] can work with an [name_f]English[/name_f] surname. It’s just the repeated -s ending that makes it feel slightly off to me. However, that could just be me, and if that doesn’t bother you, I say go for it! Definitely not silly.
I think it works! I agree about the repeated endings but it doesn’t bother me much. Not silly at all! [name_m]Lars[/name_m] sounds like a great option for you.
I am worried about the double s sound too!
The only other name we both like is [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] but I can’t stand [name_m]Art[/name_m] / [name_m]Artie[/name_m] as a nickname . Any other one syllable names (or other names that are hard to shorten)??
I really like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]! If the nickname is the only thing that bothers you about it, you could call him something else (like [name_u]Ari[/name_u] or Archie). Art/Artie isn’t what I would immediately assume an [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is nicknamed.
I like [name_m]Lars[/name_m] a lot but agree about the repeating S. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite one syllable boys name is [name_m]Bram[/name_m], which i think sounds amazing with [name_m]Matthews[/name_m].
Honestly, I doubt people would assume a nickname for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], especially one so dated. Like how a boy called [name_u]James[/name_u] is not likely to be called Jim/Jimmy anymore, I think you could safely choose [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and expect him to always be called just [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], not Art/Artie.
I like [name_m]Lars[/name_m]. But if you’re unsure, some other short names:
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]
[name_m]Troy[/name_m]
[name_m]Pierce[/name_m]
[name_u]Shane[/name_u]
[name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_u]Scott[/name_u]
[name_u]Cade[/name_u]
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]
[name_u]Blake[/name_u]
[name_m]Lars[/name_m] makes me think [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars. Not a bad association (actually he’s a great character, although brief), but still an association to be aware of - In case nerds, like myself, ask if you’re a [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars fan after learning your son’s name
I’m not a big fan of the repeating S endings, but it’s not a big deal. And I’m not a fan of the way [name_m]Lars[/name_m] sounds, kinda sounds like lard, but if it checks all the boxes for you and your partner, I think you should go with it!
I love [name_m]Lars[/name_m] and [name_m]Matthews[/name_m] is a nice last name. Somehow the two s’s at the end make it sound a little off to me. [name_m]Lars[/name_m] [name_m]Matthews[/name_m]. Not bad, just noticeable. But it is a cool name. I like [name_m]Sven[/name_m] [name_m]Matthews[/name_m] and [name_m]Liev[/name_m] [name_m]Matthews[/name_m] too.
Maybe you could use it as a nickname? [name_m]Lars[/name_m] comes from [name_m]Laurentius[/name_m] but that’s a little much so I thought maybe [name_u]Loren[/name_u], Lawrence/Laurence, [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m] or [name_m]Larson[/name_m]?
Other one syllable names you may like: [name_u]Reid[/name_u], [name_u]Ren[/name_u], [name_u]Sal[/name_u], [name_u]Penn[/name_u], [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_u]Lark[/name_u], Shea/Shae, [name_m]Oz[/name_m], [name_m]Ty[/name_m], [name_m]Marv[/name_m], [name_m]Sven[/name_m],
