My mother’s maiden name is Lar$en and I would like to find a way to incorporate her name in my son’s name. Other family names from her side are really unusable to my ear.
I like the look of it, and I like the idea of it, but I wonder if it is actually difficult to say? Also, his last name will be [name]Kelly[/name] and would Lar$en [name]Kelly[/name] work?
I have a huge thing for surnamey names in the first place, but I love the significance of [name]Larsen[/name] and I think it actually works really well. I think you could use [name]Lars[/name] as a nn, too, if you wanted. I think [name]Larsen[/name] [name]Kelly[/name] definitely works! I would go with something a bit more “namey” as a mn, though–maybe something like [name]Larsen[/name] [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Kelly[/name]?
The larceny connection doesn’t bother me at all - especially since [name]Larsen[/name] is an actual name, and not one that we’re making up.
My main concern is that with a name like [name]Larsen[/name] [name]Kelly[/name], everyone will be looking for a little girl named [name]Kelly[/name] [name]Larsen[/name] when they do roll call…
I agree that I like [name]Lars[/name] better (since it’s unusual enough as is in the U.S.). Although [name]Lars[/name] [name]Kelly[/name] is a bit of an ethnic mix, I think that many Scandinavian/Irish combos aren’t too mis-matchy (like a [name]Rory[/name] I met once with another common Scandinavian last name which I thought went well together).
[name]Larsen[/name] [name]Kelly[/name] is a great sounding name. I think [name]Larsen[/name] makes a good, strong, masculine sounding name for a boy. I don’t care for [name]Lars[/name] at all, so I’d stick with [name]Larsen[/name]. It goes well with the last name! Go for it!
@namefan: I think it’s funny that you think [name]Larsen[/name] [name]Kelly[/name] is abit of an ethnic mix! 1) Vikings were important participants in the founding and growth of [name]Dublin[/name] and in [name]Ireland[/name] so there are alot of cross-overs in names (ie [name]Finn[/name] which is fairly common in both [name]Ireland[/name] and Denmark) and 2) more importantly my son will be an ethnic mix! [name]Both[/name] Irish and Danish roots so that isn’t a concern to me. Although I know what you meant - I would feel that [name]Dmitri[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name] or [name]Lorenzo[/name] Lebowski would be ethnic mixes but if it honors the heritage or has meanings for the parents go for it! I think these types of mixes will feel less and less strange as our world becomes more multi-ethnic and multi-cultural.
I think the middle name would be [name]Melville[/name] (family name and I love it!) or [name]Finn[/name] (just cuz).
Again, my only reservation is his having a surname as a first and a first name as a last! But more and more I like [name]Larsen[/name] (much more than [name]Lars[/name] alone, although he would obviously get that as a nickname).
