Last chance

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there, I posted a question a few years ago on here about the name [name_m]Estes[/name_m] for a little girl. Most of the feedback I received was against it. However here I am 3 years later still thinking about it and now pregnant with a little girl and our last child. Has the name become more favorable in the last few years? I do like rare names but also want others to accept it. What are your thoughts ?

honestly, iā€™m kind of here for it! este haim (of the band haim) has a similar name and she pulls it off really well.

(health class might be interesting, though)

I like [name_f]Estie[/name_f] (ess tee) a lot, and also [name_f]EstĆ©e[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] but [name_m]Estes[/name_m] doesnā€™t seem very namey to me? [name_f]My[/name_f] strongest association is a client of the company I work for, so I just think of that company. I guess [name_m]Estes[/name_m] [name_m]Park[/name_m] might be a nice nature association for [name_m]Estes[/name_m], though?

Personally I worry about the teasing potential- and having a kid in kindergarten I have learned it starts early.

When we were having our children my partner would take any name I suggested and try the rhyme test , spelled backwards test and negative association . This actually ruined names I loved but it helped us Narrow it down !

[name_m]Estes[/name_m] is sweet and I can appreciate it but it wouldnā€™t have passed my partners test. For me the rhyme with testes would be too much. Iā€™m wondering if there is a close alternative/ spelling or longer name that you could use [name_m]Estes[/name_m] as a nickname .

Maybe a stretch but
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]
[name_f]Estefania[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]

But if itā€™s a name you love and those potentials donā€™t worry you I would go for it. Always go for the name you and your partner LOVE

If you still love it after all this time, and itā€™s not overly complicated, then it doesnā€™t matter what any of us think. Thatā€™s ā€œtheā€ name for her! Also, itā€™s pretty cute. Personally makes me think of [name_m]Colorado[/name_m]- a beautiful place. [name_m]Estes[/name_m] [name_m]Park[/name_m]

I think itā€™s enough like [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Estee[/name_f], [name_f]Eszti[/name_f], [name_m]Ellis[/name_m], [name_m]East[/name_m], [name_f]Cerys[/name_f], [name_f]Alexis[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] etc. that it could work. Plus, itā€™s a place name so :person_shrugging:

Is it said ā€˜Es-tezā€™? Not rhyming with testes? That would be my main hesitation with the name in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking place.

How is it pronounced? Es tezz or Es teez??? If the first, i think it could be cute. Especially as a nn for [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]. If the second, then im sorry but no.

Iā€™ve always pronounced it ā€œEs- tisā€
and never even thought about another pronunciation. But goodness es-teez testes :confounded: thatā€™s not what I want for her.

I do like the idea of making it more of a nickname or something similar so I will look into that. Thanks again !

Your pronunciation make me feel better about the name. Having never heard it before I thought it was going to be like testes without the T. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to throw out [name_f]Effie[/name_f] as an alternative.

I would avoid. I adore a name with a similar issue, [name_f]Aspen[/name_f]. It looks lovely on paper but hearing it out loud makes it a no for me.

[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] is one of my favorites though and would be lovely as an option.

I understand the appeal, but in my languague (Portuguese), it means ā€œtheseā€, so I canā€™t see it as an usable name.
Maybe you can consider [name_f]Esti[/name_f], [name_f]Aster[/name_f] or Brites.

I actually did not know what testes are till I looked it up today. I thought everyone here was misspelling the word Tests. I personally think you should avoid [name_m]Estes[/name_m] & use [name_f]Esti[/name_f]

Living near enough to the park, Ive always heard it pronounced Ehst-ihs not est-ees.

And I was here to give full support, but the similarity to testes does give me pause. I do think if you live somewhere near Estes park where everyone would have that pronunciation and association first then you could totally pull it off.
After all there are a lot of popular names that could potentially have teasing nicknames / associations like Aspen, but because people know what an Aspen tree is thats what they think of first, rather than a**-pin.
But if you live somewhere where people are not familiar with Estes park and would think of testes first, then Iā€™d probably avoid it.
