Last name for Henry!

I need a last name for [name_m]Henry[/name_m]!

He’s the former boyfriend of one of my leading characters ([name_f]Grace[/name_f]). He ends up not being the one, but until [name_f]Grace[/name_f] moved to Germany (a last-chance effort to try to forget about him for good after he’s been missing for over a year and the police have no leads. Her heart is broken, and she can’t seem to move on with life when everything in town is a reminder of the love she once had for him. After a job-offer comes for a position in Hamburg, Germany, she takes it, by the prompting of her parents and little brother, [name_u]Sam[/name_u], in hopes that she’ll be able to finally live again.), she was sure he was. Since he’s mostly seen from [name_f]Grace[/name_f]'s very biased perspective, and in hindsight (which she definitely overglorifies him, even though he is a great guy to begin with), he’s almost seen as one-sided, if that makes sense. He’s mainly seen as just the man who loved her, who believed in her, who made her laugh and smile and hope. He contained her dreams, all gathered up into one man. He was her future. Her heart. I’m thinking he’ll likely run a non-profit or be an associate minister of some sort, something where his kindness can be on full display, and yet something where he might have come across some information that would get him in serious enough trouble that he gets kidnapped, and eventually they come after his girlfriend, too. I’m thinking the secret will be of almost monumental, conspiracy sort of proportions (although I’m not yet sure what it’ll be).

I envision him to look somewhat like a mix between [name_m]Grant[/name_m] Gustin (the new [name_u]Barry[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] on CW’s The [name_m]Flash[/name_m]) and [name_m]Ioan[/name_m] Gruffudd. [name_m]Grant[/name_m]'s hair and facial features and complexion (maybe slightly lighter hair), but more the shape of [name_m]Ioan[/name_m]'s face. Tall.

He’s of predominantly English descent (I’m thinking he and his family might have immigrated to the US when he was still a toddler), so I’d like an English surname. If surnames can have personalities, his surname would be intelligent and kind and, above all, good. But also humble. Maybe with a bit of a naturey vibe. I’d tossed around [name_m]Calloway[/name_m], Breckenridge, and Covington as surnames, but they almost seemed too posh, or I already am using them for other characters.

Already Considered (if relevant): Samuels, [name_m]Calloway[/name_m], [name_m]Galloway[/name_m], [name_m]Cavanaugh[/name_m], Covington, [name_m]Davenport[/name_m], Delaware, Allerton, Appleby.

[name_m]Don[/name_m]’t Suggest These Names: [name_m]Calloway[/name_m], Breckenridge, [name_m]Whittaker[/name_m], [name_m]Tomlinson[/name_m], [name_u]Baldwin[/name_u], Appleby (English surnames already in use in the story.); anything not of English origin.

Thanks, Berries!

I’ve recently come across the surname Gallimore, and I rather like it for him. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] Gallimore. Does it sound like a good fit?

I’m thinking my surname imagery might differ from yours, but here are a few that I would say are good- and humble-sounding;

[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] (If you don’t mind -y ending. I suppose it’s Irish, but I figured since you considered [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] you might want to consider it, too. It means “fine friend”.)
[name_m]Barlow[/name_m]
[name_m]Davis[/name_m] (Means “beloved”.)
[name_m]Hart[/name_m] (If you don’t mind the alliteration; I think it really fits him.)
[name_u]Mercer[/name_u]
[name_m]Moore[/name_m]
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]

I like how [name_m]Henry[/name_m] Gallimore sounds, but not sure it fits the character I imagined while reading the description. You should go for it if you like it, though, after all you know him better than me!

Thanks, @polina! I’m sure they do vary, from person to person, but thanks for trying, anyway! I love [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_u]Mercer[/name_u], [name_m]Barlow[/name_m], and [name_m]Hart[/name_m]! I’d considered [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Barlow[/name_m] already, I think, and decided I didn’t think it suited him, but it’s just the sort of surname I love. I have associations with [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] and [name_u]Mercer[/name_u] that make me think it wouldn’t fit this [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but otherwise I would have loved them. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m] I’m mulling over, though! [name_m]Hart[/name_m] is pretty perfect, and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m] does seem really kind. I do like alliteration, actually. I was just thinking about what sort of names would suit him, and I thought a “G” surname would really suit what I was imagining him as, and Gallimore was one of the first English “G” surnames I came across. I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] Gallimore suits him pretty well, so that’s what I’m toying around with now (especially since I was leaning toward a longer surname to balance out the shortness of [name_m]Henry[/name_m]), but thanks for your lovely ideas!

I prefer [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m] to [name_m]Henry[/name_m] Gallimore (mostly because I keep wanting to say [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m]).

My first thought was [name_u]Blair[/name_u].

@renrose - I thought that, when I first saw Gallimore, too, but I still really like it. I was thinking [name_m]Callister[/name_m], too–[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Callister[/name_m]?–but I came across Gallimore after that, and really liked it.

@alchemicallypurplefairy - [name_u]Blair[/name_u] is nice, but I have troubles imagining any person besides [name_u]Blair[/name_u] Underwood. :frowning:

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Henry[/name_m] Summerby?
