Laura

[name_f]Laura[/name_f] is from the Late Latin [name_m]Laurus[/name_m], meaning “laurel”. In ancient [name_u]Rome[/name_u], laurel leaves were used to create garlands or crowns, signifying a victory or status. The name has been in use since the 13th century.

It brings to mind [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingalls [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] and her [name_m]Little[/name_m] House on the [name_u]Prairie[/name_u] series of books. It has an understated but natural vibe for me, like plain white ceramics and warm linens.

What do you think of [name_f]Laura[/name_f]? Which, if any, of the combos below do you like? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any suggestions?

I’ve actually recently been thinking of [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. I have a close friend from college named [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and always loved how classic and warm her name is.

Part of me thinks [name_f]Laura[/name_f] may feel slightly dated, but the other part of me thinks she’s actually just a sweet, classic, timeless name like [name_f]Anna[/name_f].

I also really love [name_u]Laurel[/name_u], though I think it can be a tough one for some to pronounce. So, I think [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is a great option!

From you list, I adore [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f].

I love the name [name_f]Laura[/name_f], it’s been one of my favorites for a long time. I think it’s simple yet beautiful. I like [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] & [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] best from your combos.
Before I was married, [name_f]Laura[/name_f] would’ve been my #1 girls name. But now I’m not sure that I’ll ever get to use it :sob: [name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s aunt is named [name_f]Laura[/name_f], which is fine except she pronounces it “LARR-a”. So my in-laws say “LARR-a” instead of “Lora”, and I feel weird trying to change the pronunciation of a name already in use within the family.

[name_f]Laura[/name_f] is a very important name to me. It’s my mother’s given name, although she’s never gone by it. With this connection I’ve always loved [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. I’ll probably use it as a first or middle name some day.

[name_f]Laura[/name_f] was a really popular name for a lot of my classmates (I was born in 1984) and later coworkers, and I haven’t heard it used much on the generation being born now, so it does feel a bit dated to me, although I agree it is a very nice name on its own merits. I would tend more toward [name_u]Laurel[/name_u], although I agree with a PP that it could be hard to pronounce for some people.

I think it’s a beautiful name!! I don’t hear it much on younger ones, so a little [name_f]Laura[/name_f] would be really refreshing.

As for pronunciation, I normally default to LARR-uh as a previous poster mentioned, and I kind of like that better  but LORE-uh is pretty too! and if there was any sort of mix up it’s a fairly easy correction, especially given that the differences in pronunciation are pretty much just regional and it’s a super established name.

[name_f]Laura[/name_f] just feels cozy and comfortable as a name. I don’t think you can go wrong with it and it really seems to fit with your style (which I really admire btw)!

From your combos, I’m in love with [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] :heart_eyes::heart_eyes: but I also like [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] a lot!

Laura isn’t one of my favorites, however I do still like it! It’s sweet and classic. I love Laura Bergamot, Laura Honey, and Laura Marigold! I think it goes really well with nature names :yellow_heart:

I actually quite like [name_f]Laura[/name_f]! I instinctively pronounce it low-dah (low like the beginning of the word loud, not like the work low), and that’s my preferred pronunciation too. I feel it’s very classic and sweet. These are my fav combos from you!

It’s curious, because I used to dislike this name a lot when I was younger. It was pretty popular back when I was born, and there were always one or two Lauras in my class. And it happens I never was very fond of any of these girls. So it was one of those “meh” names. It always felt very “filler”.

However, as the time passed by, I started searching for honor names for my grandmother. She was born on [name_u]Saint[/name_u] Laura’s [name_u]Day[/name_u] and because of that I decided to gave this name a chance, and now I know I could use it. I like its meaning and familiarity.

Your combos are wonderful, and I specially love [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]. [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is my addition to your list

Laura is my mom’s name, too :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Her middle name is Jane, which I’ve always thought was a perfect combo.

One fun thing about the name Laura is listening to toddlers and little kids try to pronounce it, because L’s and R’s can be hard to say. I’ve heard little kids call my mom Wawa, Yaya, etc., and it’s just too cute.
