[name_m]Hi[/name_m]. I’m not looking for a name but I wanted to know your opinions on the name. Some questions I have are:
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think the name is outdated
What would you name siblings to a child named [name_f]Laura[/name_f] (brother or sister)
What would you use as a middle name/s
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite [name_f]Laura[/name_f] combo would be [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] so i also want to get your thoughts on this combo (I sometimes think the combo might be a bit outdated/boring if that makes sense?)
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any Lauras if so what age
Please be honest you will not offend me
Thanks

I think [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is a classic, rather than outdated. Yes, she’s had peaks in popularity that might time-stamp her but she’s maintained her high ranking status for over a century. [name_f]My[/name_f] ‘Laura time stamp’ is for the 80’s and 90’s because I went to school with lots of Lauras in those decades, but more so I see her as part of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and Elizabeth’s gang of ever-popular traditional girls names.
I think [name_f]Laura[/name_f] has a nice sound and she isn’t “frilly” which I like. If I was going to give [name_f]Laura[/name_f] as a first name I’d want to avoid other classics, or at least go for one adventurous/very different choice with two middles. [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ylva[/name_f] would be more special to me, for example.
If you wanted to avoid other classics then you could put names with similar sounds with [name_f]Laura[/name_f] for cohesiveness, e.g. [name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Livia[/name_f]. Staying with the really popular classics perhaps :
[name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] & [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_u]Leo[/name_u] & [name_u]Henry[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] & [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
I also like:
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] & [name_f]Margo[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] & [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] & [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]

I don’t think [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is outdated, I’d say she’s a classic! However, it was certainly a popular name (along with Lauren) when I was at school in the 90s-00s.
For siblings I’d expect similarly classic but recently-popular names:
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_u]Edward[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_u]William[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
But if I had to use [name_f]Laura[/name_f] I might name her siblings:
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_u]Toby[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_u]Henry[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_u]Robin[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] + [name_u]Bertie[/name_u]
For middles I’d go with:
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Wildrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]

I don’t think [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is outdated.
I would name a brother to [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and a sister [name_f]Rosa[/name_f].
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a beautiful name. I don’t think it’s too boring. I would use [name_f]Athena[/name_f] as the middle name.
I know a [name_f]Laura[/name_f] aged 25 and one aged 24.

I really like the name [name_f]Laura[/name_f]! I do think it’s a little dated but that doesn’t bother me personally - it’s sweet, familiar, and grounded yet fun. I also think it’s nice that everyone will recognize a little Laura’s name and know how to spell it, but she probably won’t ever have another [name_f]Laura[/name_f] in her classes and have to go by “Laura last initial” to distinguish herself.
I can only think of one [name_f]Laura[/name_f] I know personally and she’s about 50. But I know a lot of younger people with the similar name [name_u]Lauren[/name_u].
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is classic and friendly!
I would use other classic, grounded names for Laura’s siblings. Maybe [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] for a brother and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] for a sister.

[name_f]My[/name_f] mum is [name_f]Laura[/name_f] funnily enough she’s [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Ay3l3t! She’s 56. I do know other Laura’s around my mums age from my synagogue. But I also know a [name_f]Laura[/name_f] who is 29.
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] was a fashionable amongst Jewish parents in the decade my mum was born this Nameberry article wrote all about it and I wasn’t surprised to see [name_f]Laura[/name_f] there as she’s not the only Jewish lady I know born in that decade named [name_f]Laura[/name_f] New Study Determines the Top Jewish Names | Nameberry
I actually love [name_f]Laura[/name_f]! She’s classic, sophisticated, timeless and a rarity nowadays. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I do associate [name_f]Laura[/name_f] with mums at the synagogue I think that’s more of a connection to my culture rather than how the name could be reflected into how she’s seen in the rest of society. Regarding [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] I actually love this name. She’s so classic, sophisticated and all these names have a connection to my family so this combination makes me smile a lot. I think [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is refreshing! [name_u]Truly[/name_u] [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name.

I adore [name_f]Laura[/name_f]! I don’t think the name is dated, rather I find it quite timeless. It has definitely had it’s peaks in popularity around the 80s and 90s, but isn’t tied to that time period. I don’t know any Lauras, personally.

I love the name [name_f]Laura[/name_f]! I don’t find it dated at all although I can see it being tied to the 70s/80s. However, for me, it is a very pretty, classic name who’s popularity dates as far back as the 1840s (at least in [name_u]England[/name_u] and Wales).
For middles…
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

[name_f]Laura[/name_f] doesn’t feel too outdated to - sure, it is a bit 90s, but I’ve met a little [name_f]Laura[/name_f] and it suited her well.

[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is steady and classic. If you wanted to ‘spark’ it up a bit:
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_u]Juno[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]

[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
And some middles I’d consider: [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (Sophie), [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Mithian [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_f]Betsabe[/name_f]
I’ve know a few Lauras in their thirtys and mid twenties, one teen and one toddler

Yes and no. I think [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is classic and timeless but probably due to so many parents using it for a while it’s not in use as much now and connected to a generation of parents ( mothers in
particular who read and watched [name_m]Little[/name_m]
House on the Prairie) I think it’s one that could easily be revived or at least chosen more yet not overused . It’s pretty without being fussy. [name_m]Easy[/name_m] to spell and pronounce. I don’t think it is endangered like some in recent decades.
To go with a sibling set

I have a personal distaste for popular names past and present but [name_f]Laura[/name_f] walks the line of classic without being outdated or overused well IMO.
I would give brothers and sisters similar names: [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], etc
I think those middles are more traditional but they are timeless names.
I know a few Lauras, mostly in their 30s/40s.
If you want a little difference while maintaining most of the name, I love [name_u]Laurel[/name_u].
Some helpful statistic tidbits:
According to the SSA (so US only) the most popular year four [name_f]Laura[/name_f] was 1969. It has since risen and fallen which you can view on their website. As of last year it is in the 300s which is still present but not overwhelmingly used.
[name_u]Laurel[/name_u] has historically been and remains less popular of the two.
Hopefully this helps!

[name_f]Laura[/name_f] is lovely and I really like that it isn’t super common anymore- it doesn’t feel outdated to me. I know one [name_f]Laura[/name_f] who is middle-school age. I think it goes beautifully with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I also think it goes nicely with variants of Katherine/Catherine.
Siblings to [name_f]Laura[/name_f] might be [name_u]Esme[/name_u] or [name_u]William[/name_u]?

I’m bored with the name, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad name. I prefer [name_u]Laurel[/name_u] and [name_f]Lara[/name_f].
So while it is a fine name, it just doesn’t seem fresh to me.
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is nice. If that were my name, I’d go by [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] friend’s daughter is named [name_f]Laura[/name_f] and she’s in her early 30’s. I taught a ton of Lauras in the 90s and oughts.

I have a 5-year-old niece named [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. It was an honor name for her great-aunt, and apparently when baby [name_f]Laura[/name_f] was named, her dad’s sister said it was an “old lady name.” So the opinion that it’s outdated does exist, but I disagree with it. [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is pretty classic, though as others have said, it’s had peaks. The other Lauras I know are maybe in their 40’s (also, my name gets mistaken for [name_f]Laura[/name_f] all the time.)
I know younger [name_m]Laurens[/name_m] and a baby [name_u]Laurel[/name_u].
[name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] has a brother [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] “Jake” and a sister [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] (just [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f], not Elizabeth.)
