I don’t know if this is one of those strange coincide things but over the last three weeks (since just before [name]New[/name] Year) I have come across three male [name]Lauren[/name]'s, and in all cases I know they are spelled [name]Lauren[/name] as opposed to [name]Loren[/name] because their names were written down. [name]One[/name] of them I believe is an older gentleman, one I don’t know and the other is a younger boy (still in grade school).
Curious I took a look at the popularity of the name and see it is a bit like [name]Madison[/name], a little used male name historically that broke out for girls. But now it seems to be on the decline for girls, I suspect from over use.
So, what are people’s thoughts on male [name]Lauren[/name]'s? Has it crossed to the girls now permanently? Is it seen as unisex? Could it come back as a male name?
I’ve never met a male [name]Lauren[/name], but I have met male Ashleys, Whitneys, and Kellys, and whilst it was strange at first, I got over it very quickly (literally, seconds), and I think most people would, too. On a girl, is sounds boring and dull. Sounds kind of fresh again on a boy. It might be harder once he got older, and might require some explanation, but it’s not the worst thing. I don’t know. To me, it’s not an interesting enough name to be worth the trouble.
It sounds really strange to me because I was born in the height of the female [name]Lauren[/name] popularity surge, but I can see that it would have been a masculine name originally. To me it’s just all girl, though.
I think [name]Laurence[/name] is so supremely beautiful, not sure why anyone would bother with [name]Lauren[/name]. But I don’t find it too outrageously feminine for a boy.
Since I went to grade school with female [name]Lauren[/name]'s and males [name]Loren[/name]'s the name has always been unisex. Because of [name]Ralph[/name] [name]Lauren[/name] the name feels slightly more masculine because I started seeing it as a surname name.
[name]Do[/name] you have kids? Because my boys would be mortified if they had the name [name]Lauren[/name]. According to SSA.Gov [name]Loren[/name] and [name]Lauren[/name] have not been in top 1,000 for male names in 13 years. I wouldn’t do that to a son of mine, but to each his own!
I would use [name]Loren[/name] personally but I love this name on a boy. I think it would feel fresh on a girl too. Most [name]Laurens[/name] are in my age group.
[name]Little[/name] Women made me love [name]Laurie[/name] on a boy plus I am a fan of [name]Sidney[/name] & [name]Elliot[/name] so female usage doesn’t put me off of traditional male names.
To me this name is just like [name]Morgan[/name]. A few people might be taken aback, a certain kind of boy could feel uncomfortable wearing it, but it feels fresh & preppy & rare right now & I really like it!
I’m a girl named [name]Lauren[/name] (and strangely enough the only one I know, though I’ve met a few others in passing). I actually think it would be really cool to meet a boy with my name. I’ve always wanted to live in Europe one day and I was wondering once if people there would think my name was strange or that I was a boy since [name]Laurens[/name] is a common boy name there.
Then again, I would love to meet a male [name]Ashley[/name] or [name]Vivian[/name] or [name]Evelyn[/name] too (though not use them, they’re just not really my style).
On the other hand- I have a feeling that while people would find it weird at first, they’d get used to it really quickly. It’s like having a relative or friend with a hard-to-pronounce name- once you get to know them you don’t think about it anymore.
I know a male [name]Loren[/name]… he was teased a lot for it growing up, just because we’re in the age group with lots of girl [name]Laurens[/name]. I personally wouldn’t use it for a child, but to each their own I suppose.
