What does everyone think about this name? I like it but I’m not sure if it would sound pretentious outside [name_f]France[/name_f] to use the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation - a bit like saying ‘[name_m]Paree[/name_m]’ instead of [name_u]Paris[/name_u] all the time?
I actually like pronouncing it the male way but not sure if that’s terribly acceptable.
[name_m]How[/name_m] is it pronounced in [name_m]French[/name_m]? If I saw this name I would assume it was a boy.
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] seems strictly masculine to me, but I haven’t heard the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation. [name_m]Even[/name_m] then, it feels like it could be confusing.
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u]/ Garance all have the ‘once’ ending but my phonetics are poor, on followed by sss!
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] is very popular in [name_m]Quebec[/name_m] where I live. It’s pronounced LOR-awnce.
I don’t think it’s pretentious to have that as the pronunciation, but you can probably expect a lot of the “Loh-rence” or “[name_m]Law[/name_m]-rense” pronunciation in the States. My partner’s MN is [name_m]Lorenz[/name_m], but is pronounced like “Loh-rence”, so it definitely reads masculine to me.
There was a [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] on Project Runway and I believe she was from [name_f]France[/name_f]. So I don’t see it as strictly male. I much prefer the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation. I don’t think it’ll sound pretentious. Although it might get tiresome having to correct everyone.
Thanks everyone
