Lavender, Lilac, Violet

I love the name [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but, it’s a little too much alliteration with our last name (V!k0ry).

So, I was thinking, what about other names like [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]?
What is it about these names that make them less popular than [name_f]Violet[/name_f] right now?
Which one do you like most and why?
Or do you dislike all of them?

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is a family name for us, so [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] could be a fun twist on it?

What are your thoughts?

I personally love alliteration names, so [name_f]Violet[/name_f] V!k)ry sounds great to me. If it is too much for your and your SO, then I love both [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]. I love the subtle nod to [name_f]Lila[/name_f], by naming your daughter [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]. I also love [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], but sometimes I have a hard time picturing an actual child named [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]…

Other names that are similar to [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]:
[name_f]Jewel[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

You could also go with [name_f]Lila[/name_f], straight to the source.

I like [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lila[/name_f] with your last name and the family meaning.
It’s a fun and beautiful nature name, more interesting and versatile then [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Not sure why [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is less popular then [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] as a mn only - too difficult to make up a nn for it and too posh in full for my liking.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is cute and used by celebrities so may be the reason why it is popular. I think that [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is cute but I just can’t see it ageing well in the fn spot. If you’ve been put off [name_f]Violet[/name_f] then I’d suggest [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] due to the family link and the colour plus it’s feminine sound. Other ideas linked to purple are:
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (Like [name_f]Mauve[/name_f])
[name_f]Orchid[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
Eminence
[name_f]Magenta[/name_f]
[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]
[name_f]Fuchsia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cherry[/name_f]

Thanks everyone! I’m personally not put off by [name_f]Violet[/name_f] V!k0ry, I still think it’s cute. It would be either [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] V. or [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f] V. (probably [name_f]Elena[/name_f])

I love both [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]! [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] one of my all time favorite, but I am not sure I’d ever have the guts to use it. [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is very sweet, and my pick!

I am a huge [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] fan! I know my husband would never go for it though.

I like [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] the best… even better than I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
There are so many double ‘l’ names (lila, lola, lilana, liliane, delilah) out there already, this is why I think [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is overlooked.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is also a color and has a history of use as one of the few popular ‘v’ names out there, so that’s why I think is popular.

[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] isn’t bad, I just think it is a little old timey for a child. Maybe because the current trend is softer names.

[name_m]Even[/name_m] though I’m a bit of double-L names, I really like [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], particularly if it’s honouring a [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I really like [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] too, but I do agree that it’s maybe best in the middle. I actually have a friend whose surname is [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and I think it’s lovely.

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] both [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]!!! [name_m]Both[/name_m] so beautiful and nature-y! I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] too, but because of popularity I would only use it as a middle name.

I love the name [name_f]Violet[/name_f] too but if you’re concerned about the alliteration, I personally think it sound lovely with your last but of course it’s your choice, I’d favor [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] over [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is very pretty but the hard c on [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] points up the lack sound. The only problem I foresee with [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] unless you plan on insisting she is only called [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], which can be done if you stick to your guns, is to find an acceptable nn. Lavvy is a bit close to lavatory, [name_f]Lally[/name_f] a tongue twister, maybe [name_u]Lannie[/name_u] or [name_f]Lani[/name_f]? If you’re looking for a less common flower name I’d suggest [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] which has the sweet nn [name_m]Nollie[/name_m].

i like @joel613’s suggestion of [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] NN [name_u]Noli[/name_u] or [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. but personally i like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] best!
