What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]? I’ve been contemplating it lately, but I wonder if maybe it’s a bit too odd?
I love the connection to [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - I also have [name_f]Honey[/name_f] on my list after Miss [name_f]Honey[/name_f]. [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is also my favourite scent and one of my favourite flowers - I love how relaxing and refreshing lavender is and its healing properties, so I feel like it would be a sweet addition.
Does [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] work with the rest of my list?
Is it too “out there”?
I think [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is cute. It’s one of mine and my grandmother’s favorite smells, too. I think it would work with your list, and I’ve seen a few characters out there with the name, so it doesn’t sound too “out-there” to me.
I love [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]! Definitely not too out there. There’s a mom on Instagram who has a baby named [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], if it would help to see it on an actual person (her Instagram handle is @gabbieegonzalez).
There was a time in my life when I’ve thought that [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is a boy’s name. Probably it was the amount of consonants that threw me off. It’s unusual yes, but there are much weirder flower names these days so it isn’t that bad. If you come up with a cute nn, it could work really well. Also, I know a girl named [name_f]Lavanda[/name_f], which is a variation of [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] (also its translation in some languages), she goes by [name_f]Vanda[/name_f] though. The ‘Lav’ part can work for a ton of nn in my opinion.
I’m reading Matilda with my eldest daughter at the moment, and have been newly intrigued by the name [name_f]Lavender[/name_f].
Personally, I dislike the colour and smell of [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], and the potential nickname Lav/Lavvy is slang for lavatory here in the UK (and possibly elsewhere), so I never used to like this name. But it’s definitely growing on me!
I like that it has a kind of dainty, lacy, old-fashioned vibe but actually quite a strong, dynamic sound. It’s not “frilly” at all in terms of sound and shape, but it still feels super feminine.
I think it feels perhaps a little long and heavy alongside many of your other name choices, but in terms of general feel it certainly fits! It’s got that sweet, slightly quirky, slightly feisty vibe which feels really cute and fun.
I thought of the character from [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] before I even read all of your post, I think it’s a really lovely, uncommon flower name that works very well with the rest of your list.
I love [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]! I really like that its such a versatile name, too — some nicknames can include Lav (which I personally feel is a bit negative, seeing as its a common abbreviation for lavatory (toilet) where I live), [name_m]Ven[/name_m], [name_m]Ender[/name_m], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_u]Ren[/name_u], and Vee.
Lavender is definitely not too odd. It has lots of things going for it. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] have definitely made it sound more normal. It’s a flower name, and flower names were popular 100 years ago and more unusual flower names are coming back in. It’s a wonderful alternative to the over-used [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], with its soft sounds L beginning and v middle it definitely fits in with modern naming culture.
I too thought of the [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] character!
I just don’t like “lav” either as the sound or a potential nn opportunity, because of it being slang for toilet, and that would be enough to put me off, personally.
Lavender’s definitely not too out there in my opinion. In fact I think it fits perfectly with the vintage/floral names that are somewhat on trend right now. Plus she sounds great with the other names on your list.
