How would you pronounce [name_f]Laila[/name_f]? I know it can be either Lay-luh or Lie-luh. I am part [name_m]German[/name_m], & the [name_m]German[/name_m] pronounciation is Lie-luh. Help me out plz. Thanks!

I’m from the US, and I’ve only heard it said LAY-luh !

Personally, if I wanted a name to be said LYE-luh, I’d spell it [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], or [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]

I’m from the US as well, but I would like a name that represents my culture which is German/Spanish/Native American. In German & Spanish, Laila is pronounced as Lie-luh. Then again, I do only speak English & not German or Spanish. We really like the spelling Laila, so there is no changing the spelling if we go with this name.

Hmmm, how would you feel about [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], or [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (which is the [name_m]German[/name_m] word for Lilac) pronounced LEE-luh?

LEE-luh is also most likely how [name_f]Lila[/name_f] would be said in a Spanish speaking setting too

We don’t like those names, we like [name_f]Laila[/name_f]. It is a variant name of my mom’s name [name_f]Helga[/name_f], so it would be an honor name for my mom.

I’m in the US and LAY-luh would be my first instinct. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out it was LY-luh, though.

Honestly, if you love [name_f]Laila[/name_f], go for it! It may be mispronounced a few times, but no harm in correcting.

I’m not sure, actually. I love this whole group of names but the spelling/pronunciation issues really bother me.

[name_f]Laila[/name_f] - I guess I’d be a bit more inclined to say ly-la but I guess most people would say lay-la.
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] - this one of lay-la to me
[name_f]Leila[/name_f] - ly-la
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] - lee-la
[name_f]Lyla[/name_f] - ly-la

If you want no doubts within an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking country I’d do [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]. It’s the only spelling I’d use, even though it bothers me a bit that it looks made up.

I see [name_f]Laila[/name_f] as Lay-luh because it has an ‘ai’ in it. Honestly I think Lie-luh sounds prettier
