I don’t think it’s a bad name, but I don’t really like it as a middle name for [name]Emma[/name] (which is beautiful btw :)) But when you say [name]Emma[/name] [name]Laya[/name] out loud it sounds like you’ve added an extra syllable to [name]Emily[/name], or a funny pron. of [name]Himalaya[/name].
Absolutely NOT a name that would cause teasing, any more than any other name. I personally prefer the spelling [name]Leia[/name].
Agreed that it doesn’t flow fantastically as a mn for [name]Emma[/name], for the reasons that mommafourx posted but also because it sounds sing-songy. Emm-UH lay-UH… like you just liked both of those names but couldn’t pick one so you tossed one in the middle.
I personally prefer the spelling Leia.
Though that can just as easily be pronounced lee-a.
[name]Emma[/name] [name]Laya[/name] does sort of mush together - which isn’t so bad, if you use it as a double first name. Since I recently saw the wonderful pairing [name]Emma[/name] [name]Karina[/name], I realized that [name]Emma[/name] is very well suited to use in double names.
If that’s not how you’re using it, then I favor a different style of middle, probably because short a-ending names are far from the only style I like.
I prefer [name]Leia[/name], just because I love [name]Star[/name] Wars haha. In any case, I don’t think it would incite teasing, but I don’t think it works with [name]Emma[/name].
I also prefer the [name]Leia[/name] spelling. My name is [name]Leah[/name], and I really don’t think anyone would mispronounce [name]Leia[/name] (lay-a).
[name]Emma[/name] [name]Leia[/name] does not flow well at all.
Thanks for the input ladies. I can now mark [name]Laya[/name] off my list of mn’s.
