Leah/Leia/Lia

I’ve met quite a few girls of this name in my life but what do people consider to be the ‘normal’ spelling? Which is the one used most often?
Which is the one that people prefer?

I thought that the [name]Leah[/name] spelling was standard for “[name]Lee[/name]-ah” and [name]Leia[/name] standard for “[name]Lay[/name]-ah” (as in [name]Princess[/name]…)

[name]Leah[/name] is the standard spelling, then [name]Lia[/name]. [name]Leia[/name] is pronounced [name]Lay[/name]-ah, as in [name]Princess[/name] [name]Leia[/name] of [name]Star[/name] Wars.

For some reason I have found myself pronouncing “[name]Leah[/name]” as [name]Lay[/name]-uh, even though I know it is pronounced [name]Lee[/name]-ah. The H on the end throws me alittle.

I think [name]Lia[/name] is the most intuitive spelling, even if [name]Leah[/name] is the “standard” spelling.

But yes, [name]Leia[/name] is most definitely the [name]Star[/name] Wars princess.

I’d go with these pn for each name (right or not!!)
[name]Leah[/name] - I know it’s supposed to be lee-ah but like moxielove I always want to say lay-ah…
[name]Leia[/name] - lay-ah (def too star wars to be used on a person imo!)
[name]Lia[/name] - l(eye)-ah (like liar…)
[name]Lea[/name] - I’d say this a lee-ah automatically…

[name]Hope[/name] thats of some help!

I’d go with [name]Leah[/name]!

All these I know are pronounced as “lee-ah”.
I first read [name]Leia[/name] as “lay-uh” too and I’m not too sure her mother realised this spelling may cause different pronunciation. I think [name]Lia[/name] is pretty although pronunciation is again a problem. I couldn’t use this name though cause my neighbour is [name]Leah[/name] and she’s always been a good friend to our family but just wanted to see what were people’s thoughts on it

[name]Leah[/name] ([name]LEE[/name]-uh) is most common. I’d pronounce [name]Lia[/name] the same way. I’m with the pps in that I say [name]Leia[/name] [name]LAY[/name]-uh, and I think [name]Lea[/name] can go either way.

[name]Leah[/name] is my name, and it’s definitely the most common spelling. [name]Leia[/name], in my mind, is pronounced lay-[name]AH[/name], like in [name]Star[/name] Wars. [name]Lia[/name] just looks too short and incomplete for my taste.

I’ve heard of at least two sources of the form [name]Leia[/name]: Chinese and Hawaiian (the latter actually Lei’a, IIRC). From what little experience I have of words from those languages, I expect both are pronounced [name]Laya[/name]. I expect it’s also commonly used as a variant of [name]Leah[/name], which would explain why it’s sometimes said that way.

I think that [name]Leah[/name] is most common. [name]Lia[/name] to me looks like its short for any -lia ending names.

My name is [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-yah, but it’s spelled [name_f]Leah[/name_f]. It gets pronounced wrong all the time. [name_f]Lia[/name_f] is my 2nd favorite spelling, it just looks pretty to me. [name_f]Leia[/name_f] I think is pronounced [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-ah, and [name_f]Lea[/name_f] just looks incomplete without the H.

My daughter’s name is [name_f]Leah[/name_f], and it’s pronounced [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-ah.

It’s a biblical name, with the Hebrew pronunciation [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-ah. In my circles, everyone who’s name is pronounced [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-ah spells it [name_f]Leah[/name_f].

I do not watch [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars, but I love [name_f]Leia[/name_f]. I know only one girl with this name. Well, not know. She’s my lecturer’s daughter and probably around 3 years old now.

I pronounce [name_f]Leah[/name_f] and [name_f]Lia[/name_f] the same way, the standard spelling is [name_f]Leah[/name_f], I think.

I think [name_f]Leah[/name_f] is the standard spelling but I much prefer [name_f]Leia[/name_f].
I’d pronounce it [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-uh though.
