đŸ˜± Least Favorite Names?

Oh yes I forgot about this one!

I feel the exact same way, something about it just feels off

My least favorite name is Rene due to a personal association. I always think this is such a shame, because I would probably otherwise really like the name.

Reagan is another one because of the American president.

I don’t care for Kit or Kitto because of the similarity to “kid” and “kiddo” in the local accent where I live. I also don’t like the look of the double “tt” in Kitto.

I usually dislike names with an unstressed hard “g” in the middle, like Finnegan, August, and Morgan. Tiggy is my least favorite because it also has the look of the double “gg.” (However, I don’t mind Ziggy! I think because the Z initial gives it an extra cool factor and overrides my hangup about double consonants.)

Some others that aren’t my cup of tea are Wrenley, Rosalie (but I love the spellings Rosali and Rosaly), Maisie, Finley, Arlo, Wednesday, Gideon, Roman, and Primrose.

Imogen- literally my least favorite name ever, can’t think of anything I like about it
Gertrude- would probably be like Imogen but at least you can get cool nn’s like True out of it, Gertie however is probably worse
Gideon- makes me think of Gideon form Gravity Falls, also I just don’t like the name
Clementine- can’t stand the Clem- beginning
Bramble- doesn’t sound like a name to me it sounds like an otomonopeia
Libby- same as above,

Some word names in general, I love word name, have a ton on my lists, but some words just should not be names

Super nicknamey or “cutesy” for lack of better term, names, Lulu, Kitty, Mimi, Posey etc. Perfectly fine as nn’s but as full names they’re just not substantial enough for me

I have never in my life seen Spencer described as elegant. I can appreciate your outlook on it even though mines completely opposite

Same! I just think of something being crispy.

I agree. It is quite unappealing to me.

Me, reading this with Josephine sitting pretty at top spot on my name list: :eyes:

Kidding, kidding. To each our own! How boring would the name world be if everyone had the same faves?

For me it’s got to be anything with a bunch of As. Aurelia? No. Arabella? No. Arianna? No. Astraea? No. Amanda? No. I just don’t like the ‘frill!’

I really like this take!! Everyone, go ahead and hate my favorites because that means they won’t get popular and I can use them

Yes!! I love how we each have our own styles and name loves!

This is why I’m happy when lots of people don’t like my top names

[name_u]John[/name_u], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Robert[/name_u] - extreme and chronic overuse in English-speaking countries
[name_u]Hunter[/name_u] - sound and connotation
[name_m]Gunner[/name_m] - when used in [name_f]English[/name_f] this is just someone who shoots guns
Many short-u sound names: [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], [name_m]Dutton[/name_m], [name_m]Judd[/name_m]
[name_u]Jagger[/name_u] - Worst possible combination of sounds valid in [name_f]English[/name_f] to me
Most other “Macho”/gun-themed/hyper-masculine names (Colt, [name_u]Remington[/name_u], etc.)
Title names - some countries ban these (King, [name_f]Queen[/name_f], etc.)
[name_u]Messiah[/name_u] - this is sacrilegious and as bad as using [name_u]Cohen[/name_u] as a first name
Words like [name_u]Legend[/name_u] - connotation of parents who think their kid is the best.
[name_m]Bud[/name_m], [name_m]Buck[/name_m] and similar as full names
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] - In Portuguese this is used like “ralph” in [name_f]English[/name_f] - to vomit
Maddox/Maddux - I see “Mad Ox/Ducks”
[name_u]Rowdy[/name_u], [name_m]Chaos[/name_m], [name_m]Riot[/name_m] and similar - This seems like the parent is asking for a rowdy or chaotic kid
[name_m]Buster[/name_m] - save it for dogs
[name_u]Ryker[/name_u] - hard sounding and reminiscent of jails
[name_m]Tucker[/name_m] - obvious rhyme and makes me think of tucking shirts in
Anything -axton - [name_u]Braxton[/name_u], [name_m]Jaxton[/name_m]

Any of the above for a girl
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] - hard-sounding and makes me think of “to harp on”
[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], [name_f]Bertha[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] - reminds me of maggot
-eigh spellings
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] - If this didn’t mean a small stream would it still be a girl name?
[name_u]Tatum[/name_u] - Tater tots + tums
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]
[name_u]Greer[/name_u]

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]! Sorry y’all  and I know soooooooo many. Funny enough, I think [name_f]Luci[/name_f] is a really cute nickname for males :woman_shrugging:t2: so I know that’s hypocritical lol

Most of the names I dislike fall into more general categories:

  1. Alternative spellings
  2. -leigh/-lee endings
  3. Word names. Y’all have gotten me to warm up to word names a lot in the months since I joined NB but I’m just not there yet with quite a few of the ones that come up a lot.
There are probably more but those seem to be the big three.

Some other specific names I can think of that are generally well liked by others are:
–Sawyer (the sound/vibes are just off)
–Sienna (^^^)
–Owen (don’t love the sound, something about it just feels really blah to me)
–Ellie (I didn’t used to mind it but then it got so popular and now I’ve gotten really tired of it)
–Athena (I really want to like this one but I have a negative personal association. Its weird though because usually I can separate that kind of thing well enough to like the names for other people but not with this one. It’s not even that bad of an association. So yeah, I’m a bit baffled on this one)
–Dolores (I will never be able to separate this from the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] character)
–Hank (I just hear “hank of hair” or the word “lank”. I do love [name_u]Henry[/name_u] though)
–Silas (I have no idea where this image came from but I immediately just see a grizzled old man chasing people off his property with a pitchfork. I cannot imagine it being the name of a cute little kid or cool teenager or anything. I get similar imagery for [name_u]Elias[/name_u] but the nn potential of [name_u]Eli[/name_u] helps that one feel a bit more flexible)
–Penelope (I really dislike the sound. The dragon in the [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] [name_f]Rapunzel[/name_f] movie I grew up watching is probably a major contributing factor because she’s kind of annoying and sadly, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_u]Garcia[/name_u] from Criminal Minds wasn’t nearly enough to cancel that out even though she’s great)
–Paisley (there are a lot of reasons I’m not a fan but I can sum most of them up with the fact that the only [name_u]Paisley[/name_u] I’ve ever met was a yorkshire terrier puppy who definitely suited the name)

Love Silas but this made me laugh :joy:

Anything with the syllables “til” or “nel”. Something about pronouncing those syllables is so overwhelmingly unpleasant in my mouth.

I am so sorry to the rest of the NB community, but for the life of me I cannot understand why people like [name_u]George[/name_u] or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. I really dislike them. Oh, and [name_u]Walter[/name_u], too.

[name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Liam[/name_u], [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] - [name_m]Way[/name_m] to overused and just sound gross to me (sorry to anyone who likes them), and too heavy on vowel sounds
[name_m]Cassius[/name_m] - Has always sounded like “cash-ous” to me, like a made-up word for rich or something which I find kinda obnoxious even if I know that isn’t actually what the name means. I do love [name_u]Richie[/name_u] though so maybe I’m being a hypocrite?
[name_f]Missy[/name_f] - When I was little I HATED whenever anyone called me a missy even if it wasn’t intended as an insult, so I have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to use it as a name
[name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Gia[/name_f], [name_f]Via[/name_f], etc. - Something about the -ia ending just sounds gross to me, I don’t mind it though if it’s at the end of a longer name and not given a lot of emphasis
[name_u]Keegan[/name_u] - [name_f]Pretty[/name_f] much a bunch of ugly sounds put together
[name_u]Amos[/name_u] - All I can hear is anus
[name_m]Egbert[/name_m] - I rarely hear this one thankfully but I cannot look past the Eg- syllable

I wouldn’t say I like this name but it reminded me that I went to school with a girl named Missy in elementary school and I was so envious of her. She was beautiful, long wavy dark hair, freckles and dimples. She was also effortlessly cool and kind to everyone. I can’t hate this name because of her.
