Leila pronunciation

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all -

I think [name_f]Leila[/name_f] is a pretty name but not sure if there is a ‘correct’ way to pronunciate it.

[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-la, LYE-la, [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-la

Thanks!

[name_f]Leila[/name_f]/[name_f]Layla[/name_f]/[name_f]Laila[/name_f] = [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-la
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Lyla[/name_f] = LYE-la
[name_f]Lela[/name_f]/[name_f]Leela[/name_f] = [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-la

Yerp.

[name_f]Laila[/name_f] can also be ‘LIE-la’ and [name_f]Leila[/name_f] is ‘lee-la’ in various Scandinavian languages. It’s also the same in Germany, as far as I know.

I say it [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-la (like the AY sound the ‘ei’ combination makes it eight, freight, beige, weight, etc.). However, I suppose it could be said [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-la too, I don’t think this is the original or correct pronunciation (‘ei’ combination like caffeine, conceit, receipt, etc.). I don’t think it can be pronounced LYE-la unless it is Laila or Lajla, a Nordic name. I might be wrong though.

[name_f]Leila[/name_f] = [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-la. I prefer [name_f]Layla[/name_f] though, to cut confusion.

I’d pronounce it lay-la in English. In [name_m]German[/name_m] it’s a bit more complicated as “ai” and “ei” would be “eye” but can be pronounced as “ay”:
[name_f]Leila[/name_f] / [name_f]Laila[/name_f] could be pronounced as both Lye-la and [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-la.
[name_f]Leyla[/name_f] / [name_f]Layla[/name_f] are [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-la to me.
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-la here.

I say it like [name_f]Layla[/name_f], as I pronounce ‘ei’ like ‘ay’.

I say [name_f]Leila[/name_f] ‘[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-la’ unless I’m corrected.
