[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! I’ve been really loving the name [name_f]Lena[/name_f] lately (prounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nuh) and I was wonder what comes to mind when you hear the name? Like what kind of person do you image when you hear the name [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and what kind of connotations does it have for you? I was also wondering if you would pronounce it [name_u]Lee[/name_u] nuh instinctually or some other variant like [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-na or [name_m]Len[/name_m]-nuh. Any other thoughts on the name would be much appreciated as well. Thank you!
I think of [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Horne and the mom from The Fosters. So pretty light-skinned black lady with bomb hair and a lovely singing voice comes to mind. Its a classy name.
I really like the name [name_f]Lena[/name_f]. I automatically think of the character [name_f]Leena[/name_f] from Warehouse 13. To me [name_f]Lena[/name_f] is a caring, sophisticated and classy person .
This is a name that I considered too. I’m considering using [name_f]Elena[/name_f] as either a first or a middle name with [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as a nickname. Such a gorgeous name. It makes me think of the Polynesian islands. It’s such an elegant name.
I think of [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]'s granddaughter [name_f]Lena[/name_f] (pr [name_f]Layna[/name_f]) [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]) Tindall.
I intuitively say [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-nuh. I’m not a native english speaker though. Anyway, I pronounce a sweet girl next door. [name_m]Brown[/name_m] hair, warm smile, gracious and kind hearted.
I’ve got a few reference points for it:
- [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Headey the Game of Thrones actress, who’s beautiful and a bit rebellious-seeming
- [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_m]Lamont[/name_m] in Singing in the [name_u]Rain[/name_u]. She’s actually a mean talentless brat in the film, but the flip of that is that it definitely has 20s silent film vibes
- [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Tindall, [name_f]Zara[/name_f] Tindall’s baby girl
Overall I really like it! But I think I maybe prefer the [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-na pronunciation?
I would say [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nah but I do think there would be a mix of pronounciations until corrected.
It strikes me as sophisticated and a little European (being from the US!)
I immediately think of the actress [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Headey from Game of Thrones, so I picture a strong, somewhat fiery personality. I’d pronounce it lee-nuh, but others may still say lay-nuh or len-uh.
I associate the name with [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_m]Durham[/name_m] who I believe is quite a controversial figure so you might want to look into that.
I don’t necessarily like [name_f]Lena[/name_f] (it was the name of an older girl I knew when I was younger who wasn’t very nice to me…), but if I were to use it, it would only be a nickname. I have heard it pronounced both [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nuh and [name_m]Len[/name_m]-nuh by different people, but I have always pronounced it [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nuh since that as the way the [name_f]Lena[/name_f] I knew pronounced it. I would say that it sounds mature and powerful, like a CEO or something. Not something I would use, but if it strikes your fancy, I say use it.
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] is a gorgeous name.
I don’t associate this name to a famous person, it reminds me of [name_f]Elena[/name_f]/[name_f]Helena[/name_f]. A really pretty Greek name.
