Leo and Theodore? does this work?

We both really like the name [name]Augustin[/name] ([name]Gus[/name] or Auggie) and [name]Theodore[/name] ([name]Teddy[/name], as [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Theo[/name] is too much for sure) for our next baby but worry that [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] are too close? What do you guys think?

I love both those names, but as [name]Theodore[/name] would most likely be called [name]Theo[/name] (love that name by the way, but just can’t get DH to budge), I’d say no. What about just [name]August[/name]? Or check out my “Beautiful Boy” list for other names you may like (I bet we have similar tastes).

I do think that [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]LEo[/name] are too close. [name]Love[/name] both names on their own, though

I think if you’re going to name him [name]Theodore[/name] but strictly call him [name]Teddy[/name] it would probably be fine. I know there’s always the chance that he might choose to be called [name]Theo[/name] if/when he outgrows [name]Teddy[/name], but I think for someone who grows up as [name]Teddy[/name] it’s more likely that he will choose to go by [name]Ted[/name]. Also, when I say [name]Theodore[/name] I don’t really pronounce the first o, it’s more like Thee-door or thee-uh-door, so [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] doesn’t even sound that bad in my accent. Close, yes, but doable.

That being said, if you love [name]Augustin[/name] just as much, I’d go with that just to simplify things, but if [name]Theodore[/name] really feels like “the” name, I say go for it. Or if you’re just trying to get to [name]Teddy[/name] (which I looooove by the way) maybe you’d like [name]Edward[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], [name]Edwin[/name], etc?

[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] are not ideal. If [name]Theodore[/name] is given the nn [name]Teddy[/name], it would be an improvement. As much as I love [name]Theodore[/name], I would stick with [name]Augustin[/name] for [name]Leo[/name]'s sibling.

Thanks guys for the feedback! I do really love [name]Augustin[/name] (although [name]Augustus[/name] is my favorite but doesn’t really work because my husbands name is C@esar…corny?)

He hates [name]August[/name] :frowning: We have a restaurant nearby called [name]August[/name] [name]Moon[/name] and he just can’t get over the association plus we met a girl with the name [name]August[/name] a couple months ago so he has vetoed it.

But [name]Augustin[/name] doesn’t sound very good with our last name. SIGH. Seems like every name we both like (and believe me there aren’t many!) has some sort of problem with it.

I completely agree. If you’re going for the nickname [name]Teddy[/name] you could name him [name]Edward[/name]. Although, I think [name]Augustin[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] are a much better match

I love [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Teddy[/name] together, but I agree that [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] aren’t ideal (lovely as [name]Theodore[/name] is!). Maybe use [name]Theodore[/name] as a middle? Or you could do something like [name]Edward[/name]/[name]Edmund[/name]/[name]Eden[/name]/[name]Edwin[/name]/[name]Edgar[/name], etc. nn [name]Teddy[/name]? I think [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name]/[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Teddy[/name] would be adorable together!

Good luck!

Well, if [name]Augustine[/name], [name]August[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name] are all out, it seems difficult to use the name (unless you want French [name]Auguste[/name] or something).

[name]Theodore[/name] & [name]Leo[/name] are too closely matched in my book.

I know you’re just contemplating a future pregnancy, but are the other names in your signature definitely out?

It might work if you went with a nickname of [name]Ted[/name] or [name]Teddy[/name]. Then it doesn’t sound so rhyme-y. However, if he wants to go by [name]Theo[/name] or their full first name, then it sounds rhyme-y and matchy. So therefore, I would nix it.
