[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all-
What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer the [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] spelling? Would you pronounce them differently?
I fell in love with the name when I met a little girl called [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] while living in Portugal a while back. Now in the US, with no Portuguese (or Spanish, etc) ancestry, it seems that the [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] spelling might make more sense, but I know that it might end up being pronounced as [name_m]Le[/name_m]-[name_f]NOR[/name_f], which I don’t particularly care for.
Any thoughts? I also really like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], which would be less complicated and also maybe fit better with my other favorite names ([name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], etc) but I already know a lot of little Eleanors so I’m not sure about it.
I think [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is very pretty and the “[name_m]Leo[/name_m]” is very recognizable and pronounceable. I also love [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]!
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]! It’s spunky, feminine, vintage and fun! I get the appeal of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] seems much more beautiful to me because I don’t hear it all the time. I’d pronounce [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] as [name_m]LEO[/name_m]-nor and [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] as leo-[name_f]NOR[/name_f].
I personally love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], but it is a bit more common. [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] spelled this way looks prettier to me than [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]. I wouldn’t worry about not having Portuguese ancestry. Spelled [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] it’s apparently [name_m]German[/name_m] (according to behindthename.com.).
[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] & [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] (ooh, & [name_f]Leora[/name_f]!) are also nice options.
I think I prefer how [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] looks as it’s just that little more complete. I’d pronounce them both the same ([name_m]Le[/name_m]-[name_f]NOR[/name_f]).
Both are more interesting than [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] though.
I really like [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] and like this spelling best - just seems more streamlined and neat to me, and possibly picks up the cool international vibe better. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is also lovely, but a more mainstream, classic choice.
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is probably my favourite spelling. I pronounce it both as leo-nor and lae-o-nor, depending on how the person pronounced it (I’ve known both). I also really love [name_f]Lenore[/name_f]!
