Less than 3 weeks to go... Silvan or River

Hey berries! I’ve been keeping myself up with anxiety over this dang babies name! Ugh!

I am hesitant to add another name to my list but I’ve officially crossed every first name off except River (which admittedly my husband doesn’t love, but is fine with). And Silvan, which is kind of a new love for me but I don’t want to pick on impulse…

We were going to use a saint we love… Sophrony, although it’s a bit odd to American ears, not that we say the boys middle names often anyways.

Hmmm, these are my two cents, which may not hold any validity but who knows.

I like both names; my personal taste prefers [name_u]River[/name_u]. However, I feel like [name_u]River[/name_u] is quite close to [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] in pronunciation; that’s a tongue twister to say them together. [name_u]River[/name_u] also feels quite matchy with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] does share some vowel sounds with [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] and an ending with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], but doesn’t feel like an obstacle compared to [name_u]River[/name_u].

Also, I feel like [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] Sophrony > [name_u]River[/name_u] Sophrony, but I don’t really have an objective reason. I also personally don’t feel like using [name_m]Sylvanus[/name_m] as an older brother’s middle excludes [name_m]Silvan[/name_m], but all of my siblings share either similar firsts or middles so I’m used to it and it’s never bothered us. Others may not feel the same, though.

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote for you is [name_m]Silvan[/name_m]!

I lean toward [name_u]River[/name_u] slightly in general, though I like both. Given the middle name choice, and my personal opinions on alliterative names, I prefer [name_u]River[/name_u] even more.

I think I would lean towards [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] but I like the spelling [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]. I love [name_u]River[/name_u] but I feel it is too close to [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. Your boys have such handsome names.

[name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] sleek, woodsy, earthy and cool. [name_u]River[/name_u] is a great choice too - solid, charming and lovely - but I feel like [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] has the edge. And [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] Sophrony feels endlessly cool to me!!

Thank you for that input, I actually never considered Wilders name that similar to [name_u]River[/name_u], but I guess I can see it for sure.

This one is so tough! This is our last little guy and I am so scared of having naming regrets!

I would pick [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] every day! I like it more that [name_u]Silver[/name_u] (not ultra popular, but still known masculine name in my homeland). But, [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] is very similar to Sylvanus… [name_u]River[/name_u] is great too and matches other boys.

[name_u]River[/name_u], or sorry to throw in a new name, but [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]?

Hmm not s huge fan of [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]!

I’m guessing you’ve considered [name_m]Silas[/name_m]? Same etymology though not as quirky as [name_m]Silvan[/name_m], but goes great with your other boys!

I think [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] and [name_u]River[/name_u] both work, I prefer [name_u]River[/name_u] and don’t think it’s too closer to [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], but you might want to keep their names more distinct.

Yes we have considered [name_m]Silas[/name_m], my husband vetoed it and I didn’t love it enough to fight for it

I’m fairly certain I will stick with [name_u]River[/name_u] after thinking it over, but keep it in mind when I see him.

Yay [name_u]River[/name_u]! I love Silvan/Sylvan, and if that’s his name you should go for it (and I adore your [name_u]Leo[/name_u] Sylvanus; I remember his birth announcement!) but it would bother me personally to use both [name_m]Sylvanus[/name_m] and [name_m]Silvan[/name_m]. Same name twice. But it really is no huge deal; I know brothers named J0seph [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] Se@n, because [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] was their mom’s favorite name and their dad gave in to it as a first name when the youngest boy was born
