Hello!
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are expecting a baby boy in three weeks, and all the names we’re considering have us going “…eh.”
We have two older children, [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] “Gus” Haase (a family surname) and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. We don’t feel any need for our children’s names to “go” together, but I wanted to provide them to give a sense of our general style: traditional-leaning, not-too-common names with a sense of permanence - a name that a child can easily inhabit as an adult, too.
Names we like but just aren’t quite right for us: [name_m]Warner[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_u]Adrian[/name_u], [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], [name_u]Henry[/name_u], [name_u]Franklin[/name_u]. Middle name will most likely be Nicolai; our last name is extremely common. We really love [name_u]John[/name_u] and [name_u]James[/name_u], but with our last name the baby’s first/last combo would be a bit of a snore-fest.
Any ideas that might get us excited again? What names am I missing??
[name_u]Or[/name_u] does anyone have any brainstorming suggestions for this mama-to-be?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have the option of using [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] as the first and John/James as the middle?
I think it would “go” well enough with your older kids’ names and would be more interesting with a common surname. Plus the nicknames of Nico/Cole work nicely with [name_u]Gus[/name_u] imo
I’ll second the suggestions of [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] and [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] and will offer [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] as alternatives.
How about [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] or [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] instead of [name_u]John[/name_u] or [name_u]James[/name_u]? Some other suggestions (sorry for any repeats!)
I’m not opposed to [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] as a first name, but what are your thoughts on it? What comes to mind when you hear it? I tend to shy away from names that draw buckets of attention bc I don’t want the kid to feel overshadowed by a big name.
I think it’s handsome and matches [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] well- I actually think [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] is more of a Big Name than [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] if that makes sense! I don’t think a kid would be overshadowed by [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] though, especially with relatable, child friendly nicknames
If you like [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]John[/name_u] but they’re too popular, the first name that came to me for you was [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], which has the bonus nickname of [name_u]Remy[/name_u].
I have a [name_u]George[/name_u] and I am so in love with his name. Not common, we got so many compliments when he was a baby and it will carry well in his life. Good luck!
Hm…possibly! Definitely less so than [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] & [name_m]Julius[/name_m]! I didn’t think of it when I was brainstorming ideas for you, but if that’s the association that comes to your mind, I’d probably nix it!
