Lesser known Biblical place names

[name]Hi[/name] there! I found a list of Biblical place names on Wiki and listed out the ones I thought would work as names. Some would no doubt be very bold. It started out as a girl name list but I think some of those might be better for boys. It’s debatable. But I’m putting them here because I think they’re mostly feminine.

This is not an exhaustive list obviously. But I found some I wasn’t aware of. I particularly like the Z names.

Some of these may have unpleasant meanings or associations of which I’m not aware. Although I left out the obvious ones, like Gomorrah and Golgotha.

What about [name]Shiloh[/name]?

I have known three little boys, throughout the years with the name [name]Jericho[/name]… I love it!

Great post!

[name]Galilee[/name] has been on my list for years.
I know a girl in her 20s named Jerusalem.
I know a girl with mn [name]Mari[/name], a [name]Jerica[/name], a [name]Jericho[/name], and a cute little guy named [name]Zion[/name].

I like as many for boys as I do for girls.

Girls
Kinneret
[name]Carmel[/name]
[name]Moriah[/name]

Boys names to me
[name]Jericho[/name] (have a relative by this name though)
[name]Gilead[/name]
[name]Israel[/name]

I prefer Benzion or Batzion (“son of [name]Zion[/name]” or “daughter of [name]Zion[/name]”) to using [name]Zion[/name] as a name.

I like [name]Bethany[/name], Cana, Perta, [name]Mari[/name], Achaia, Lycia, [name]Kaska[/name], and [name]Persia[/name].

I knew a boy name [name]Jericho[/name] and for me it’s always a boy’s name.

I like:

[name]Bethany[/name]
Caria
[name]Jordan[/name]
Lycia
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Marah[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Petra[/name]
[name]Zelah[/name]
Zior

I’ve only ever known [name]Jericho[/name] as a boys name.

I particularly like
[name]Bethany[/name]
[name]Carmel[/name] (maybe only as a mn)
[name]Kenya[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Petra[/name]
[name]Zelah[/name]
[name]Zorah[/name]
Zior

For girls, I like…

Achaia
[name]Bethany[/name]
Bethlehem - best for the middle spot
[name]Carmel[/name]
[name]Galilee[/name] - mn only
Gethsemane - mn only
[name]India[/name] - controversial?
Jerusalem - mn only
Lycia
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name]
Nineveh - mn only. This reminds me of the modern invention of [name]Nevaeh[/name].
[name]Persia[/name]
[name]Petra[/name]
[name]Samaria[/name]
Zanoah
[name]Zelah[/name]
[name]Zorah[/name]

I like these names for a boy…

[name]Jericho[/name]
[name]Memphis[/name]
[name]Nazareth[/name] - mn only. The French [name]Nazaire[/name] is pretty cool too. Nazarine/Nazarene would be pretty for a girl.
[name]Zion[/name] - too controversial?

[name]One[/name] not mentioned: I like [name]Canaan[/name] for a boy. It’s pronounced “[name]KAY[/name]-nin”. I like [name]Sela[/name]/[name]Selah[/name] for a girl as well.

I have had Jerusalem on my list for several months now. Also, I have to confess, I added Nazarene to my list recently because I like it better than [name]Mazarine[/name] due to its Biblical significance. Gethsemane is an awesome idea!
