So we had decided on [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] for our soon to be baby boy, number four with big sister [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and brothers [name_u]Wade[/name_u] and [name_m]Ford[/name_m]. But recently we’ve had people ask “Oh H-A-Z-E?” After hearing us say it and now my husband is afraid we are setting him up for a lifetime of spelling/correcting his name. In addition to always using family names we also try to use very straight forward spelling and pronunciation for our kids so we have multiple worries now about [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] that people will think we are saying [name_m]Haze[/name_m] and that eventually in school the [name_m]Haze[/name_m] side will be used in a teasing manner. Our second runner up to [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] was [name_m]Wells[/name_m]. So our question is should we change before he gets here in a few weeks and Does
[name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_u]Wade[/name_u], [name_m]Ford[/name_m] and [name_m]Wells[/name_m] work?
It would be [name_m]Wells[/name_m] [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] (middle name is 100% not changing)
Thanks!
[name_m]Wells[/name_m] works but I do wonder how people will hear it on a day to day basis. It’s a bit unfamiliar compared to [name_u]Wade[/name_u] and [name_m]Ford[/name_m].
From your signature, I like [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].
I love the sound and look of the name [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], but to be honest I would probably assume the name was “[name_m]Haze[/name_m]” if I heard it without context. If that bothers you too much to use [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], I would say [name_m]Wells[/name_m] is a great choice and definitely works with your other children’s names.
I love both [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] and [name_m]Wells[/name_m] but would stick to your first choice. Once people are introduced to him, then they know. They have probably never met a [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] so hence the question, but [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] is a firmly established surname and upon hearing it, they may even feel a little silly not realizing it immediately. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you do have the occasional person ask about the spelling I don’t think it is a dealbreaker.
[name_m]Hayes[/name_m] is becoming more used as a first name and I think that people will eventually catch on. [name_m]Wells[/name_m] is nice too and more uncommon. I prefer [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] simply because it would give him his own initial.
I think that it could be confused for [name_m]Haze[/name_m] but the spelling you want is getting more popular, so you might not have to correct it all the time. I’m not a fan of [name_m]Wells[/name_m] though. I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] would fit perfectly with your other children. I personally think [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] is a bit too similar to [name_u]Wade[/name_u].
I think you should stick to the name you love! No one ever spells my name right but it’s never bothered me. It doesn’t come up as often as you’d imagine. Plus, I think [name_m]Wells[/name_m] and [name_u]Wade[/name_u] are too much alike. I’d pick another name if you have to change [name_m]Hayes[/name_m].
I think either [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] or [name_m]Wells[/name_m] would work fine. Honestly, if your set on [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] then go for that. There will always be some people that dont know how to spell names (even the most common), and others will.
I personally like [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] more then [name_m]Wells[/name_m], as I agree with pp that [name_m]Wells[/name_m] & [name_u]Wade[/name_u] might be too similar?
Thanks for all of the input!
