Any thoughts on whether [name_f]Leta[/name_f] works as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? Does it seem intuitive enough that it would be understood by the general public or would it take explaining?
It’s not the most intuitive but I think it can work. I don’t think you have to “explain” the nickname to anyone…
Totally agree with this!
Definitely agree with the above! Introducing someone as “[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but goes by [name_f]Leta[/name_f],” would be simple enough and I don’t think it would cause any confusion.
It’s not intuitive. As in nobody will hear [name_f]Leta[/name_f] and say oh is that short for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? My best friend is [name_f]Leta[/name_f] and I’ve never heard anyone assume it’s a nickname.
That said, it’s not so out there it’ll cause confusion or need an in depth explanation. If it’s what you like, go for it.
I agree with this too.
I think it works just fine, in fact I really like [name_f]Leta[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. It’s not the most obvious one, but you don’t need to explain to anyone why you chose a particular nickname for your child.
I completely agree with the first poster
Thanks for all of your responses guys. I think ultimately, I would have to call her [name_f]Leta[/name_f] so much to get the nickname to stick that I wouldn’t truly have the joy of calling her [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I’m from the school of thought that if you’re only gonna use a nickname…that should be the name. But [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is so broad you can get away with [name_f]Leta[/name_f] definitely.
