Let's Play 20 Questions....About Calantha

Hello Berries,

I just discovered this lovely, lovely Greek name while surfing the site and I was smitten immediately. But I have about one million thousand questions concerning the name that means “lovely flower”. First, do you prefer that or fantastical sister [name]Calanthe[/name]? Which is more likely to be pronounced correctly? [name]Will[/name] it ever be correctly pronounced? Is it usable in my small, conservative naming town? And, most importantly, which two names could ever measure up to the beauty and rarity of [name]Calantha[/name], for her two sisters?

Thanks as always for your time and efforts!

~[name]Celestia[/name]

Oh, and middle name suggestions would also be welcomed:).

I adore this name, it’s an undiscovered beauty. I can’t imagine too many pronunciation troubles. I do think the [name]Calantha[/name] version is more likely to be prn correctly than [name]Calanthe[/name] (which will be messed up often as cuh-lawnth or cuh-lanth).
For sibling names, I find [name]Amandine[/name], [name]Ariadne[/name], [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Phaedra[/name], [name]Minerva[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Oriana[/name], [name]Alessia[/name], [name]Lucinda[/name] and [name]Amalia[/name].

I’m guessing the pronunciation is cuh-lan-thah? It’s really pretty and the sound seems familiar yet the name itself is unique. I don’t normally care much about meanings but “lovely flower” is a great meaning. I prefer [name]Calantha[/name] since I tend to go for A endings. It’s definitely usable- there aren’t very many names I find unusable actually, mostly just offensive ones. Another gorgeous and rare Greek or [name]Roman[/name] name like [name]Persephone[/name], [name]Demetria[/name] or [name]Minerva[/name] would be lovely in a sibset.

Well, [name]Calantha[/name] will definitely be mispronounced less than [name]Calanthe[/name]. I agree, both are beautiful names.

Possible sisters:
[name]Appoline[/name]/[name]Apollonia[/name]
[name]Arista[/name]
[name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Cosima[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Demetria[/name]
[name]Eulalia[/name]
[name]Fiammetta[/name]
[name]Fiorella[/name]
[name]Larissa[/name]
[name]Lavinia[/name]
[name]Lorelei[/name]
[name]Nerissa[/name]
[name]Odelia[/name]
[name]Ondine[/name]
[name]Paloma[/name]
[name]Phaedra[/name]
[name]Philomena[/name]
[name]Sabina[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Sybella[/name]
[name]Viveca[/name]
[name]Zenobia[/name]

What do we think about [name]Calantha[/name], [name]Ariadne[/name], and [name]Persephone[/name]?
(Thanks for all the great suggestions!)

[name]Calantha[/name]'s gorgeous, and more likely to be pronounced correctly imo! I know a little [name]Kalantha[/name], and her sister is [name]Sophia[/name]. :slight_smile: My suggestions would be;

[name]Calantha[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Louise[/name], [name]Emma[/name] [name]Rose[/name].
[name]Calantha[/name] [name]Louise[/name], [name]Meaghan/name [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Marissa[/name] [name]Nicole[/name].

I’d say it’s usable, and, if your town disapproves, you could always shorten it to [name]Callie[/name] or [name]Calla[/name]
