Lets Talk About Ashley

What’s your opinion on the name [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] for a little girl? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s more feminine than masculine? (Because I do) and how many [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s have you actually met? And what middle name would you give a little [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]? Everything related to the name [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] belongs here!

My name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] so I only see it as a feminine name. I also think it’s rather dated. Most [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s are going to be my age. As for middle name options I’ve seen

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] alexis

After [name_f]Kinzley[/name_f], [name_f]Tinsley[/name_f], [name_u]Finley[/name_u], [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], & [name_u]Paisley[/name_u], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is refreshing!

My sister is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]. She dated a male [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] once. I’ve known probably about 8 or 9 of them. It’s a nice name but a bit boring [name_f]IMO[/name_f]

I prefer [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] for a boy. Sorry.

I’ve known quite a few [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s. I have recently heard it a few times on newborns and it feels fresh again! My husband adores [name_u]Ashley[/name_u].

I only see [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] for a girl, and [name_u]Ashton[/name_u] for a boy. I’ve met a girl [name_u]Ashton[/name_u] and never a boy [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]. [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is right there with [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] and [name_f]Kirsten[/name_f] in having been super popular names when I was in school. I’ve known flocks of girls named these names who were born between 1985-2005

I don’t think its a very popular child’s name right now but there are plenty of young adults with the name. [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] always reminded me of the ‘popular’ and conceited girls so I’m not fond of it, but it’s not horrible.

I’ve known quite a few [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s. Mostly female, one male. My favorite [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] combo from friends is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].

My name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], and I honestly love it! I’d love to meet a baby [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] I think it has become more feminine, though I was named after a man.

My name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. I have known several girls named [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_u]Jean[/name_u].

ha! My name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]. I find it amusing that there’s a post for it.

I like my name, for the most part. I like the meaning (ash tree meadow). It brings to mind a meadow in north [name_f]England[/name_f], surrounded by stately ash trees with a lilting breeze and bunnies hopping everywhere. It’s just really peaceful. I also think of [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] Downs, an orphanage in [name_f]England[/name_f] run by [name_m]George[/name_m] Mueller, who ran it completely by faith in God, not accepting government help or even asking for help when he did need it, and he always received the funding (and the food!) whenever he needed it. I like the nn [name_u]Ash[/name_u].

I’m an [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] (surprise!). I find it really uninspiring and completely boring, personally, but I like the femininity (and general feeling of classic-ness) that [name_f]Marie[/name_f] carries, though.

Funny enough, my aunt’s husband’s family comes from a very strong Scottish-Canadian family, and my uncle’s middle name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]. (His brother’s FN is actually [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], too, lol.) I like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] on a boy, actually, and would be happy to meet a boy/guy named [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]. Then again, I like unisex names on boys. I find [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] to be a slightly more updated version of [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], and I like it more for its literary roots ([name_u]Hadley[/name_u] [name_m]Hemingway[/name_m]!), but I like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] fairly well. I feel like it’s fairly boring, though, and would have liked something SLIGHTLY less popular. It was number 2 when I was born, and number 1 4 years later when my sister was born.

I’m not sure what combos I would like–something completely feminine, for sure, and probably not very filler-ish as a middle:

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Clara[/name_f]

I always wished I had been given my grandma’s middle as my own middle ([name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]), although I think [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would have been the perfect name for me.

I prefer the [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] spelling, if I’m honest - but the name itself feels too strongly connected to my generation at the moment. I’ve met more [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s my age than I can physically count, in my college class last year, there were 6 alone, and the class only had a total of 40 students.

I know at least 15 [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s off the top of my head. I definitely find it feminine - all the Ashleys I know are girls. I do think it’s a bit of a valley-girl name like [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]/[name_u]Courtney[/name_u]/[name_f]Tiffani[/name_f]. I picture someone peppy, pretty, ditzy, and popular.

I think I was burned by a few [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s in high school ;)!

I know two male [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s, three female [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f]'s, two female [name_f]Ashlee[/name_f]'s and one female [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] all around my age (17-22). It’s pretty much gender ambiguous to me, but I personally prefer it on a boy. I probably wouldn’t use it at all though because it’s so common for people my age. I don’t think I’ve ever met any [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]/variants under the age of 16.

My best friend growing up was named [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. I think that’s a lovely combination, but I also was never partial to [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]. Like a few other posters, I agree that [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is one of those [name_f]Brittney[/name_f]/Tiffiany/[name_u]Courtney[/name_u]/[name_u]Whitney[/name_u] names. Super popular during my time in school, but dated.

But that’s my opinion. You love it, so I say go for it. My personal fave middle name for it is [name_f]Marie[/name_f], if only because I’m used to it from my childhood best friend.

Other middles could be:

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]May[/name_f]

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] Barret

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_u]Peri[/name_u]

I don’t think I can even count how many Ashleys I’ve met, honestly. Dozens, easily - it is very common for women my age (late 20s). It’s one of those names where I have to remove myself from it a bit to find the appeal because it’s like “white noise” due to how many I grew up with.

When I think of the newer surname/place/androgynous-lite names that sound nice to me, like [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], I understand what parents heard in names like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] in the 80s and 90s. Unfortunately, I think if used on a baby now, people would also have the “white noise” reaction and forget what made it appealing back when it was fresh and new. Using a very old-school or very modern middle name could freshen it up, because when I hear [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f], Ashley [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and the like, all I can think of are the 20-somethings I grew up with. But [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] or [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is more interesting.

At this point, I think it is pretty firmly on the girls side of things. I do like [name_m]Asher[/name_m] for a boy.

I agree [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] should stay on a girl, at least now that every [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is a girl. My opinion is that [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is a nice enough name, but is past its prime. I know entirely too many people named [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] though, ([name_f]Ashlie[/name_f], [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f], [name_f]Ashlee[/name_f], etc.) and despite the fact that one of those is my dearest friend, I don’t think [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] makes a great name for a modern baby.

I think it’s more feminine too. I know a lot online but only one in real life. I don’t care for dated issue so I’d love to meet a little [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] (I think it’ll be unexpected, maybe even fresh. You know, among all Isabellas and Sophias…)

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]

I’m a fan of [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] on a boy.

I find [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] very dated as I went to school with more Ashleys then I can count. It is a name that flows well with most surnames though and you could jazz it up with a fun middle name. [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] or [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] Truett are both nice.

Yes to all of this for me. It’s actually one of my top five names that I like the least (I’m sorry, I don’t mean to crush you, but that’s genuinely how I feel). To me it’s very dated, and I’ve known hoardes of girls named Ashley through my school years. A good many of them have not left pleasant memories and associations with the name. I hear it and I kind of shudder, actually. I suspect you’ll find this reaction not uncommon; it’s going to take a generation or two for this one to sound fresh again. I did meet one little Ashley at the daycare where I worked, though. She was a cutie. Her sister’s name was Tory, and they worked well as a sibset.

If you love Ashley, I’d opt for a fresher middle name to balance it. Maybe…

Ashley Juniper
Ashley Lilya
Ashley Noelle
Ashley Eden
Ashley Seraphine
Ashley Sage
Ashley Morgana
Ashley Zinnia
Ashley Elowen

Just off the top of my head. I don’t mean to ruin it for you if you really adore it.
