[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is a name I’ve always liked, but never given much thought about. The problem? Since I only actually consider it now, I only realised now that I may pronounce it wrongly. I am not a native English speaker and I tend to use different pronunciations interchangeably, sometimes depending on which language I speak, the other time depending on which one I like more. When it comes to [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], I pronounce the -e in the end. So, Ce-less-tay (I always suck at writing down pronunciation, but I hope you get it). Is it really wrong? [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce it?
Now about problem number two. I’ve been liking [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] a lot. [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] is another name I’ve always loved. In fact, it was the first name I’ve ever adored as a name nerd and the name of the first person I’ve ever considered my best friend. Unfortunately, I happen to know a bunch of Veronicas and also already associate this name strongly with my old friend, so I prefer to just keep it in the middle. Combined, [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] means “true heavenly image” and I need a second middle name that complements the flows and preferably also complements the meaning. Any ideas, Berries?

In English, [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] has two syllables with the last e being silent. If you wish to pronounce the last e, I suggest you put a diacritic on top. However, I should warn you that diacritics tend to be left off in English speaking countries so you would probably end up with [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] without the last e being pronounced.
I pronounce it with two syllables, like ce-LEST. But I think your pronunciation sounds beautiful too! I am not sure of the correct, original way.

Yes, I am aware that it’s pronounced ce-LEST in English. It’s just when I first saw it I pronounce the -e and end up liking it more that way. Now I wonder if it’s correct too or just plain wrong. Spelling it [name_f]Celest[/name_f]é or Célesté is not an option though.

In English, [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is pronounced Seh-lest (like the word “molest”). The final “e” wouldn’t be pronounced. However, the Italian pronunciation is closer to your way, except the first syllable is said like Cheh instead of Seh. I wonder if your pronunciation would work in Spanish? I don’t think of [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] as a Spanish name (I would expect [name_f]Celestina[/name_f] instead), but according to Behind the Name, [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is the 67th most popular name in Chile, so apparently it gets some use among Spanish speakers.
Anyway, I think [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] is absolutely stunning! Some possible second middles:

Yeah, I think this pronunciation probably works in Spanish (not completely sure since I am not a Spanish speaker). The Italian pronunciation sounds really adorable as well. I actually don’t mind if my kids’ names are pronounced differently (as long as I don’t hate any of the possible pronunciation. In that case I’d rather not use that name at all). I plan to raise my future kids multilingual and I just hope they’ll understand that their names, too, can sound different depending on the language. A note from someone who speaks [name_m]French[/name_m]: [name_f]Celest[/name_f]é would put more emphasis on the last syllable - cel-ess-[name_u]TAY[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to keep in mind
@arkellian I actually speak [name_m]French[/name_m] too, to some extent. I know [name_f]Celest[/name_f]é will be pronounced that way but it just looks wrong to me as I believe in [name_m]French[/name_m] it should be Céleste instead. Not sure if spelling it [name_f]Celest[/name_f]é is even acceptable. Thanks for your reply.
