What are your general thoughts on [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]?
What would you name hypothetical siblings?
I don’t love [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] as a full name, but every full name option I’ve found I just don’t like. I’ve gone through tons of threads and lists, but nothing has felt right for me. I had two that stood out to me, but I decided to just go with [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] because [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] looked pretty, but I don’t like the [name_u]Jess[/name_u] sound and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is just not usable in the US.
I considered doing something like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], but I have no G or [name_f]Em[/name_f]- names on my list at all and can’t see myself adding any. Chances are that I won’t use [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] because I have [name_u]Jem[/name_u] set aside as a nickname to [name_u]James[/name_u], but the crush won’t go away!
What about [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] or [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]? Maybe with a middle name that starts with M?
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Maelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]?
I’ve considered both, but I’m not a big fan of either name. I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is pretty, but it doesn’t feel right for me. I didn’t even consider a middle starting with M. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] isn’t usable with my last name and [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] is my sisters middle name. I could spell it as [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] and go with J names, but I don’t have any that I love that are usable for me. I don’t usually mind stretches, but I think it might be better to use a Je- name. I think I might have to learn to love [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f]. I really wish [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] was usable. I actually quite like [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f], but I’m not sure if I would use it myself.
Most likely if I use [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] than she will be just [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]. I don’t want to put one name I don’t love on the birth certificate just to call her one I do love.
I like [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] best. It’s a pretty name. I know someone named [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and she’s very sweet. Sibling names that come to mind are [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and [name_m]Collin[/name_m].
I think [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] works well as a first name. My husband and I are considering [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], but the J spelling seems like a nickname to me while the G spelling feels like a more substantial full name. I don’t think there’s any point in trying to convince yourself to like a longer version that doesn’t feel right.

It’s funny that you named those names because they are quite similar to some of my favorites: Adalind, [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_m]Augustine[/name_m], [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] are also on my list!
Our two year daughter is called [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], it’s her given name, occasionally we’ll refer to her as “[name_f]Gem[/name_f]” for short.
Overall we’re very pleased with her name, occasionally it’s mispronounced, but after being corrected people usually get it.
She wears it very well, and I think it’s a beautiful name, though I’m a little bias;)
We’re currently pregnant with baby number five, and won’t know the sex for a couple of weeks. Current name contenders for a sister are: [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_u]Waverly[/name_u].
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]'s brothers are named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Waylon[/name_m] and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m].

I love [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]! It’s adorable, unique but not strange or weird, spunky and charming.
I would consider using it but a friend of mine daughter’s name is [name_f]Gemma[/name_f].
