Let's talk about Hennessy

I’ve known one Hennessy my entire life, a coworker in her 30s. She was sweet, and soft-spoken and very pretty. Her name stuck with me for awhile, but over time I completely forgot about it. My fiance suggested this name tonight out of the blue, and he rarely suggests names at all, so I know he must really like it. My question is what do you all think about this name? What kind of imagery do you get? What kind of girl do you see as being named Hennessy?
I’m not pregnant, and we aren’t currently trying to conceive, and we already have a name picked out for daughter #1. (Kind of)
We’ve decided on [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], as of yet she has no middle names. Pretty sure I want [name_f]Grace[/name_f] in there somewhere though, it has a lot of personal significance.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you see [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and Hennessy as being possible sisters? Thanks in advance, any opinions or suggestions are welcome.

I don’t like names that remind me of alcohol personally. It’s the imagery I get from that name.

Sorry, but if I was you, I would scratch it off the list. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is a lovely name, and Hennessy will always have to deal with alcohol jokes. What about [name_u]Henley[/name_u]?

Nope, at least not for a first name. I know it’s still controversial even in the middle spot, but [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] Hennessy [name_f]Grace[/name_f] flows really well, imo.

I love the sound of it, but honestly I wouldn’t want my baby named after a brand of liquor. I don’t drink, and don’t know alcohol name brands at all, so I had no idea it even had to do with alcohol.
I love [name_u]Henley[/name_u], I’ll have to bring that up to him. I think it sounds better with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] anyways. Is it too trendy?

Oh, I am glad you like [name_u]Henley[/name_u]! It is similar but much less teaseable. I don’t think it is trendy, I don’t know any Henleys.

I like Hennesy too. Reminds me of a soft spoken Quiet, reflective person who is thoughtful and kind and very creative. I love Hennesy and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] together

Hennesy [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Summer[/name_f]

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

I am not much of a drinker, and yet my first association with Hennesy is with the cognac. I prefer [name_u]Henley[/name_u] for that reason. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is gorgeous though.

I have barely any knowledge on alcohol, but when I saw Hennessy I thought “isn’t that a brand of alcohol?!” so I’d avoid it. I agree that it’s soft but it’s just not a good idea, it also doesn’t go well with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] as a sibset.

Does [name_u]Henley[/name_u] nn Heni seem like it fits with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is kind of vintage does [name_u]Henley[/name_u] seem made up?

One of the few names that would just be a mean thing saddle a human being with, imo. Other names on this list include [name_m]Aryan[/name_m], [name_f]Melena[/name_f], [name_f]Candida[/name_f] and [name_u]Messiah[/name_u]. The stigmas associated with it outweigh any love one may have for the sound.

Is naming your daughter Hennessy really any different than [name_f]Brandy[/name_f] or [name_f]Sherry[/name_f]?
Apparently Hennessey with the extra is a luxury car brand too. Would spelling it this way help to disassociate with Hennessy?

Well, personally I wouldn’t use [name_f]Brandy[/name_f] or [name_f]Sherry[/name_f] either. I especially dislike [name_f]Brandy[/name_f] because of the alcohol connection. I think the difference in those cases is that both [name_f]Brandy[/name_f] and [name_f]Sherry[/name_f] have been used as names for quite a while, so the association is less strong, while I’ve never heard of a person named Hennessy. It’s a useable name, but you just would need to be prepared for the fact that people will ask if she’s named after cognac.

I would say no. I think of actress [name_f]Jill[/name_f] Hennessy from [name_m]Law[/name_m] and Order. I don’t like surnames on girls.

I didn’t know about the alcoholic connotation myself, but the name reminded me somewhat of the word “heresy”. I think it would be alright for a middle name, though. I like [name_u]Henley[/name_u], and I don’t think it sounds made up. I’m not sure what your opinion is of [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], but I think it does well with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].
