What do you all think of [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] for a boy? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you find it too feminine or do you think it’s a cute name?
Personally I think it’s really charming and a nice alternative to the ever-popular [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Johnny[/name_m].
I like it on a boy, but would probably prefer it as a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u]. I think of the character in [name_u]Love[/name_u] Actually. I know an adult [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] and it suits his friendly personality.
While I do know a handful of female [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]'s, of various ages, I do much prefer it on males. I love it as a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. I don’t much like it as a stand-alone name.
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is masculine to me. I have only known one, a brother to a boy I graduated with (actually I think he was Jaime). I adore [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m], and [name_m]Johnny[/name_m]. I feel neutral about [name_u]Jamie/Jaime[/name_u].
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u] feels like a friendly and approachable name to me. I can see it working well on both genders, but if I were to guess I would think that a [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] was male. I’ve come across both male and female [name_m]Jamies[/name_m]. One of the lead male characters in Outlander is named [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], so that would help people see it as a boys’ name if they didn’t already.
I like it. I prefer the full [name_u]James[/name_u].
My brother’s name! He’s [name_u]James[/name_u] really but always called [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] or occasionally [name_m]Jim[/name_m].
I like it. It’s definitely a familiar, friendly, warm sort of name and much more popular for boys here in the UK so I see it as masculine but soft.
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] feel quite similar to me - a bit dated (and very much tied to a specific era) as full names for girls, but still sweet on boys.
I would only use either of those names as nicknames, myself (probably for [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Robert[/name_m]). They’re not bad as fulls, just not quite my style (a bit too cute)
Haha I never mentioned [name_u]Robin[/name_u], but thanks for your thoughts!
I’ve met ton of female [name_m]Jamies[/name_m], but I like it on a boy. Not too much on its own, but as a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u], it is really sweet.
It’s a nice nickname. I would definitely assume his full name was [name_u]James[/name_u] until I learned otherwise. I do know a [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] whose name isn’t [name_u]James[/name_u] but that definitely came as a surprise.
I would also assume [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] was a boy until I learned otherwise.
Sorry, I probably didn’t express myself very well. [name_u]Robin[/name_u] just came to mind as a similar type of name, a sort of analogue to try and explain how I feel about [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]. I was using it to give some context or extra explanation/ atmosphere but I did it clumsily and it was just weird. I guess what I really wanted to say was that I like [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] on a boy, especially as a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u], even though it’s not my style as a full name for a girl.
Sorry for the confusion.
I know a [name_u]James[/name_u] that goes only by [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], and a [name_u]James[/name_u] that occasionally goes by [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]. I think as a stand alone name, it does come across as feminine, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a boy with [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] as his full name either, if that makes sense.
I like [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]! I will say that in some circles at the moment it would probably be associated with Game of Thrones (the character’s name is [name_u]Jaime[/name_u], but pronounced the same, and he… has made some questionable choices, haha) but since it was a name before the series and will continue to be after the series’ popularity fades, I definitely think it’s still usable. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to consider if your friends/family are big into fantasy literature/TV
But I certainly don’t think it’s too feminine - it’s one of those unisex names that truly does work equally well for either, [name_f]IMO[/name_f], especially as it’s so close to [name_u]James[/name_u]. Definitely usable.
I like [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] and think it suits males or females.
I like [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] as on a boy. It could make an interesting unisex name. I’ve seem it used as a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u].
I know several [name_m]Jamies[/name_m], all male. I know it is used on girls but I assume boy when I hear it. I think for all of the ones I know it is a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u], but it doesn’t have to be.
