Lev as a middle name for a girl?

If this baby is a boy his middle name will be [name]Lev[/name], a name that has great meaning to us. So much so that we are thinking it might be our girl middle name as well.
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Lev[/name], think it works?

We live in a world full of girl’s with first names like [name]Elliot[/name] & [name]Maxwell[/name] so why not. [name]Plenty[/name] of people use family surnames as girl’s middles as well.

Personally I would use it as a second middle. Something like [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Lev[/name] or [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Lev[/name]…it gives you the personal meaning of [name]Lev[/name] with a more feminine middle as well.

Or use [name]Lavender[/name], Leonina, [name]Leona[/name], [name]Leonie[/name], [name]Lavinia[/name], ect. Or tie in the [name]Lion[/name]/feline meaning or whatever aspect of the name appeals to you.

Is it in honor of a relative named [name]Lev[/name]? It’s hard for me to picture this Jewish priestly name on a girl…

Leven (“to live” in Dutch, the name of an actress)
Levenez (a [name]Breton[/name] name pronounced lay-vay-ney, meaning "happiness, goodwill)
Madaleva (a famous writer/abbess, portmanteau of [name]Mary[/name] [name]Evaline[/name])

Sure! Name your kid whatever you like, especially in the middle spot. My middle name is my Mom’s maiden name, so it has lots of family significance. Unfortunately, it’s also a boy’s name and I hated it for most of my childhood and openly expressed my displeasure that my sisters got middle names inspired by literary characters like [name]Anne[/name] [name]Shirley[/name] and I got a boys name. Now I feel badly because I was basically dissing my mom’s family, but my point is that [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Lev[/name] might not love her middle name and wish it were [name]Julia[/name] or something, but since the middle spot is used most effectively when it has significance, you should go for it. It sounds similar to [name]Liv[/name], a girls name and more and more I think middle names should have more significance than just a name you like. Give her [name]Lev[/name]'s legacy. That’s a gift.

Thanks all. Our son [name]Leo[/name] passed away after a brief illness at age 5. [name]Lev[/name] is in honor of him. We are Jewish and I like that it’s a Jewish sounding name because [name]Audrey[/name] is not. I do want her to like her name, though, and I’m definitely thinking more about me than her. I also like [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Louise[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Luna[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Lu[/name].

What about [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Lea[/name]? Or [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Leah[/name]?

My deep condolences. I can think of nothing better than honoring little [name]Leo[/name] in his sister’s name (in fact, in the days when the loss of a child was far more common, it was nearly a standard practice to give a child the same name as their deceased sibling). I assume [name]Lev[/name] was [name]Leo[/name]'s Hebrew name?

[name]Louise[/name], [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Lu[/name] all share different name roots than [name]Leo[/name]. What about

[name]Leona[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] (this is very chic in [name]France[/name] right now)
[name]Leocadia[/name]
[name]Leone[/name]
[name]Leonora[/name]
Leotie
[name]Leontine[/name] (or [name]Leontyne[/name], like the singer)
[name]Eleora[/name] (which is Hebrew, meaning ‘God has given’)

Thank you for the suggestions. I’m not sure exactly where we’ll go with it, nothing feels perfect. I’m half wishing this baby is a boy so we can go with our boy choice, [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Lev[/name]… perfect.

I think [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Lev[/name] is a lovely name and it works fine. My one reservation might be that since [name]Liv[/name] is so much more familiar as a girls’ name this may be what people hear - but this won’t come up that much really in the middle spot.

Besides all the lion related suggestions above there’s [name]Ariel[/name], another traditionally male name in Hebrew with a meaning related to lions that is however more familiar as a girls’ name in the US. [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Ariel[/name] (or [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Arielle[/name], etc.) is quite pretty to me.

Ooh, I agree with the [name]Arielle[/name] suggestion. [name]Lovely[/name]. And still classically Jewish.

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Lev[/name] is very striking, congratulations on arriving at a decision.

[name]Hi[/name] bluemoon21, I think [name]Lev[/name] is a beautiful and gorgeous name for a girl. “Heart.” and [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Lev[/name] sounds so beautiful. I’m so sorry to read of your loss of your son [name]Leo[/name]. What a beautiful way to name your daughter with part of his name. I hope you are doing well and you’ll post later about what name your child receives. Blessings.

p.s. I was just speaking with a friend who wanted to know about changing her hebrew name to “lev” hence I was searching for other girl-lev names and found your thread… the similarity to [name]Liv[/name] is also a lovely connection - “to live and love” since lev means heart…

[name]Liba[/name]/Leiba/Leeba (pr. lee-ba, I’ve seen a few spellings, you know how transliterations go…) is a Jewish name that means “heart” or “beloved” - if the bet/vet swap thing (where b’s become v’s and vice versa) doesn’t bother you?

I’ve also seen Libi (lee-bee), “my heart.”

[name]Ariela[/name] is nice too. Were you thinking more the lion reference or the heart reference?
