Still struggling to name #5. We’ve just reached 23 weeks and usually have the kiddo named by now!
I’m Katherine, and married to Matthew
We have:
Elliot James
Margaret Anne
Daniel Joseph
Caleb Josiah
I think we like names with a solid meaning, the first name must not start with “j” nor end in “n,” the middle name must start with “j” but (again) not end in “n” We like familiar and recognizable names, without being necessarily “old man names” (like Esau, Harvey, Rodger, etc).
We have considered but failed to agree upon:
Levi - does this have too strong an association with the product? Would people actually mispronounce it as 'Levy?" Do I even actually love the name or am I just settling? I love (x3) my other kids names. Matt/kids like it.
William “Will”- last night I heard Matt say it, and it made me dislike it a little. It has a good meaning “strong protector.” I fear this one may be a “settling” also.
Samuel “Sam” comes with the obvious issue of the actor. Maybe it won’t be an issue, I could probably use it, but I’m not sure I want to get that close to naming a baby after a famous Jackson (our surname). I love the meaning of Samuel. Samuel is a mirror of Daniel, our stillborn son, so we would not actually be using both names daily
Peter - I love everything about this name, the way it feels when I say it, when I hear it. I love the Biblical significance of its meaning and the history behind it. Matt is not won over by this name but hasn’t dismissed it completely.
I’ve considered Biblical names and names with a Biblical theme and come up dry but for those I’ve mentioned. Margaret means pearl, but I have assumed artistic license and would poetically define her name as the treasure (pearl of great price) of grace (Anne). I would not mind using a name where I must take these kinds of artistic liberties again!
What do you guys think about those 4 name options?
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] is wonderful! I’ve never actually heard of the actor [name_u]Levi[/name_u] is good too! I wouldn’t associate it too heavily with the product.
Thanks for responding.
I can’t not think of an angel when I think of [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u], and if he’s my kid, an angel he is not.
I like [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. I’ll try it out on the hubby!
[name_u]David[/name_u] is my brother in law, not a viable option, but theoretically great!
I love [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], but not at all [name_m]Nate[/name_m] or [name_m]Nathan[/name_m].
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is my dad. Means twin. I don’t like my dad that much haha.
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] - I like! There may have been some connection to [name_m]Saul[/name_m], and that’s kind of cool. [name_m]Silas[/name_m] is also associated with Silvaneus (sp?), and I like the history of the name. Good one to suggest!
Toby/Tobias. Mmm. Sounds like a country singer. I’m not sure what it means, so I’ll have to look it up!
i do love [name_m]Peter[/name_m] the most, but [name_m]Paul[/name_m] popped into my head too. might be too much of an old man name for your taste, but I met a preschool aged [name_m]Paul[/name_m] recently and it really struck me! it’s also very obviously Biblical, super strong!
@WhiteGardenia thanks for responding! Those names are lovely, but I’m trying to avoid names beginning with J and ending with N.
@CurlyC… you brought up a fantastic idea! [name_m]Matt[/name_m] loves the name [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m]. It’s not my favorite (I’m not sure why), but I wonder if I could compromise there as a bargaining chip for getting to use the name [name_m]Peter[/name_m]!
I adore all 4 names but I ultimately voted for [name_m]Peter[/name_m] !
Other names I thought you might like
[name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_u]Asher[/name_u]
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
-Micah
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] ( I know this one breaks the ending in n rule but I actually adore [name_m]Simon[/name_m] / [name_u]Si[/name_u] with [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] , [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] and Daniel)
I really like luke but Matt’s said no luke-associated names. I have the hardest time getting him to explain why he doesn’t like certain names!
[name_m]Adam[/name_m] just reminds me of the beginning, like I should have used it first if I were going to use it at all. Missed that boat.
[name_u]Asher[/name_u]. How can this name mean happy? It sounds so sad! I can’t get over this incongruity in my mind!
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u] - I like it but not enough to double up on E names.
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] - I love that it means laughter. I don’t like how it sounds like “sick.”
I think the dash beside [name_u]Micah[/name_u] means theoretically good, and it’s true, I like it… just not with [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]. With “Micah Jackson,” no one would hear just “Micah” hehe
I do like [name_m]Simon[/name_m]! I’ll do some research and ask about that one.
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m]- [name_m]Zack[/name_m] [name_u]Jack[/name_u] is too rhymey
Update: I’ve been making real headway with [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m], so thank you @CurlyC!!
I like [name_u]William[/name_u] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] or [name_u]Levi[/name_u] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] with the other siblings, they are both really sweet. I love [name_m]Peter[/name_m] but [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] & [name_m]Peter[/name_m] remind me of famous people coupled with your last name.
Would you consider [name_m]Samson[/name_m] / [name_m]Sampson[/name_m] as an alternative to [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]? It still is the ‘Sam’ sound, but a different ending. It may not flow nicely with your last name though since it repeats the sound.
Other middle name suggestions:
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_u]Jasper[/name_u]
[name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_m]Julius[/name_m]
[name_m]Jakob[/name_m] / [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_m]Jedediah[/name_m]
I love LotR! Probably not enough to use any specific name from it but it’s not as bad imo as naming a kid samuel and not liking SLJ (which is the case). In the grand scheme of things, my last name is pretty common, so repetitions are likely. [name_u]Michael[/name_u] is probably the worst choice, samuel might be okay, and [name_m]Peter[/name_m], I think nothing of it. So many names are off the table for us, but I absolutely love working within parameters and the more the better, so [name_m]God[/name_m] knew what would be ideal for me when I married a [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]! Also @Teabelle.
@PurpleLily [name_m]Samson[/name_m]. Such a tragic story of pride and redemption that came with grave consequences. I find the ending a little repetitive with [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] also. Some have mentioned [name_m]Samwise[/name_m], but the meaning of the name is quite less than desirable! What an amazing character though!!
The debate between [name_u]Levi[/name_u] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m] continues <3
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Levi[/name_u] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m]. Both strong handsome names that match your others. I would probably take them both to the delivery and then see which one you feel works. You have lots of great suggestions for J middle names.
I like [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], [name_u]Jacoby[/name_u], [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_u]Jericho[/name_u], [name_m]Jarrod[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] would be really nice. I like [name_m]Peter[/name_m], but with [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] it does immediately make me think of the director of LOTR. I’m a big fan too, but I can’t imagine giving my kid his exact name. I’d definitely avoid [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] with the last name [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] as well. [name_u]William[/name_u] is a lovely name, but if you don’t love it, you don’t love it. I’m personally not a fan of [name_u]Levi[/name_u].
[name_u]Levi[/name_u] really, really works. [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] is tied pretty heavily to the actor but probably not in your child’s lifetime nearly as much. I wouldn’t do it. [name_f]My[/name_f] cousin recently used [name_m]Peter[/name_m] but I’m just not a fan. It sounds kind of weak and boyish with teasing potential. Greatly prefer [name_m]Paul[/name_m] or [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]. [name_u]William[/name_u] works but is predictable. Great name, though. I still prefer [name_m]Paul[/name_m] or Phillip’s lack of popularity right now while sounding just as strong and handsome.
Did I miss any discussion of [name_u]Seth[/name_u] or [name_u]Asa[/name_u]?
I’m submitting:
[name_u]Seth[/name_u] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Phillip[/name_m] [name_m]Jared[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Levi[/name_u] [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
Coming to mind for me are a few IRL families I know as well:
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Bryan[/name_m]
[name_u]Seth[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Daniel[/name_u] [name_u]Asher[/name_u]
