My husband and I are expecting our third baby and are at an impasse when it comes to boy names (we don’t know the baby’s sex).
We already have a son named [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and a daughter named [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. I love the name [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] for a boy but my husband, who is not religious, thinks the name is too biblical, especially when paired with [name_m]Ezra[/name_m].
So I’m on the hunt for boy names that are not overtly biblical and that work well with [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. We have a short last name that starts with a T and ends with an S and we will most likely go with the middle name [name_u]Lee[/name_u].
We both tend to like names that are neither too common nor too obscure. Other names that have been considered and rejected include:
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] (I really like it but the S at the end doesn’t work with our one-syllable ending in S last name)
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] (same as above, too many S sounds)
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] (too common for me, to biblical for him)
[name_u]Noah[/name_u] (same as above)
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m] (husband nixed because of X-men connection)
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (husband nixed)
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] (husband nixed, says it sounds like a cartoon character)
[name_m]Heath[/name_m] (husband nixed because he thinks everyone will assume his baby is named after [name_m]Heath[/name_m] [name_m]Ledger[/name_m])
We are now at a total impasse. I’m still secretly hoping he’ll come around to [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], but he really has strong feelings about what he sees as the inherent religiosity of the name.
I like both [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] a lot. Also [name_u]Tobin[/name_u] (or [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]) although I don’t like it with our last name. [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is actually my middle name. I like it more for a girl (although I know it’s usually a boy name) but wouldn’t rule it out for a boy. My husband thinks it’s weird to use my middle name as a first name for our child though.
