I was thinking about [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u] and how they have the rare distinction of being both nature names and virtue names. Wondering if the berries can come up with any other names (male or female) that also fit that criteria?
All I can think of at the moment is [name_u]Sterling[/name_u].
We have [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] on our unisex list. It means “pilgrim” which lends it some spirituality, and it references a particular kind of falcon, making it a nature name, as well.
The only other one I can come up with at the moment is Radiance, and maybe it’s a stretch.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_u]Lennon[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_u]Rain[/name_u]
P.S. I love the names in your signature!
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_f]Brier[/name_f]
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f]
Beaumont
[name_f]Journey[/name_f]
[name_u]Sequoia[/name_u]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_f]Azure[/name_f]
[name_u]Ember[/name_u]
All I can think of is [name_m]Hale[/name_m] meaning both strong and healthy and someone who lives in a hollow.
Swift! It’s a quality and a bird. [name_u]Haven[/name_u] might be close, though maybe it’s just safe haven either way, with [name_u]Harbor[/name_u] being in the same boat (snicker, pun intended). I also know a girl named Shelter. [name_m]Noble[/name_m] could be a stretch with the [name_m]Noble[/name_m] Fir.
This is precisely why [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is one of my favorites! I really like [name_u]August[/name_u] too, although I honestly don’t think it fits either category quite as strongly as [name_u]Sage[/name_u]. Actually, I can’t think of any names that are as satisfying as [name_u]Sage[/name_u] in the double-meanings department, but maybe you’ll appreciate these:
Cardinal - a bird species, and also an adjective meaning “fundamental/primary” (like the cardinal directions)
[name_u]Concord[/name_u] - like the grapes or the city, or the word meaning harmony (the opposite of discord)
[name_f]Delta[/name_f] - a geographical name, and also the Greek letter D which has other significance in science and mathematics
[name_u]Gale[/name_u] - a gust of wind, and a possible short form for [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
Gard - short for names with meanings relating to either “garden” or “guard/guardian”
[name_f]Ginger[/name_f] - the virtue aspect is not terribly obvious, but [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] is often used as a nickname for [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] (meaning purity)
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] - a flower, the colored part of the eye, or a rainbow
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] - lots of meanings in other languages are listed for this name, including “sea” and “forgiveness”
[name_m]Moss[/name_m] - according to nameberry it also means “descendant of [name_m]Moses[/name_m]”
[name_u]Navy[/name_u] - navy blue or the military branch?
[name_m]Pine[/name_m] - the tree, or the verb meaning “to long for”
[name_u]Poe[/name_u] - obvious association with the poet [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Allan[/name_m] (and similar words poem and poet come to mind), but it also means peacock
[name_m]Quill[/name_m] - a bird’s feather, or a pen made from one (pretty similar meanings, but they evoke different imagery)
[name_u]Vale[/name_u] - a valley, or could be short for [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
[name_f]Verda[/name_f] - means green, but add one letter and you have [name_f]Verdad[/name_f], the Spanish word for truth
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] - no double-meaning here; I just always think of it when I hear [name_u]Sage[/name_u], especially when its unexpected virtue aspect is discussed
Trying to put together this list only made me realize how one-of-a-kind [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is!
I love seedsandstones suggestion of [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]! Not exactly a virtue name but the meaning gets it mighty close. Also like the suggestions of [name_u]Haven[/name_u] and [name_u]Harbor[/name_u]. (They remind me of [name_m]Beacon[/name_m]. Not a nature name but an interesting noun/virtue name.)
Any other brilliant ideas?
