Looking for some help from Spanish-speaking berries!
I love the name [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] (LIE-la) but dislike [name_f]Layla[/name_f] ([name_m]Eric[/name_m] Clapton).
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you recommend spelling it so that I get the pronunciation I want in English AND Spanish? I’m a little afraid of “[name_f]Lila[/name_f]” since that’s a color, and is “[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-la” anyway.

To get Lie-lah you’d need [name_f]Laila[/name_f], (in Spanish ai sounds most like ie, like in bailar) but that doesn’t get you what you want in English. Are you in the US? I think you could pull off [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] with Spanish speakers after a quick correction. That sound just isn’t created with equivalent letters in both languages.
I echo @Dindlee’s words. [name_f]Laila[/name_f] is my name and I will tell you that in the US the Latinos are just about the only people who get my name right straight away! I wouldn’t not use this spelling because of that because it’s an easy correction to make and once made, in my experience, people will tend to get it right. I think that out of all the LIE-la names my least favorite is [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] (hence my username), the letter H at the end just makes it look cheap and trendy to me. As an alternative to [name_f]Laila[/name_f], I would prefer simply [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. Best of luck!
