Wondering if this would work. My name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and I was thinking about this earlier…would it be too much of a stretch to use [name_f]Lily[/name_f] for short? I don’t see why not, personally…if it can be short for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], why not [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]? I think it’s pretty, and I like that it’d be unexpected…but is it too unexpected? If someone called [name_f]Lily[/name_f] told you their full name was [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] would you be particularly shocked or surprised or whatever?
[name_m]Just[/name_m] looking for opinions. Thanks
I’d expect [name_f]Livy[/name_f] but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is cute and I say if you like it, go for it. It definitely seems closer to a nickname for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. And if you think about it, a nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m] is [name_u]Billy[/name_u], which changes a letter of the nickname, and there are definitely other examples of common nicknames that are more of a stretch. I’d say if you went by [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and I found out your full name was [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], I’d be a little surprised for a second but I’d think it was really cute.
I just don’t know why anyone wouldn’t love the name [name_f]Livy[/name_f], lol. It’s my absolute favorite. But I don’t think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is crazy. It’s not obvious or intuitive but i’ts not totally out there.
No, I wouldn’t be surprised. I personally am indifferent to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
If I had to go for an unusual nickname I would choose [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] though.
Part of the reason [name_f]Lily[/name_f] works as a nickname for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is because a variant of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f].
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is too much of a stretch for me. Why not just use [name_f]Livy[/name_f]?
I don’t actually mind [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], which is saying something as not one for far-fetched or even just non-intuitive nicknames at all. I think it is because I’m used to it for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as I know a couple, and that sort of gives it a bit of history behind it too.
